Question about Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Can't download pictures!

The camera can't seem to communicate with my computer. When I try to download as I normally do, I get an error message on my computer stating the camera was in use & to try again later. If I try to download using the CameraWindow software that came with the camera, the error message states it cannot detect a camera. I've double & triple checked all the cables, & nothing is loose. I never had this problem before. Please help!

same here on my Dell, it's not even recognizing that a camera is hooked up to the computer. On my other one I was able to get to the pictures via the usb----> camera using adobe photoshop and them download them that way. I am trying something else now to see if it will work, I have tried everything I know including getting the most recent updates from microsoft to no avail.

The problem might be the computer is not communicating with the software program. You can try to use another software from a photo smart or kodak easy share.

The easiest way also go to a store get your pictures on a CD, then download from the CD to the computer.

Take care

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Communication Error

try either a card reader (rather than connecting your camera to the computer) or try erasing photos. it seems that it happend when the card is too full. i had the problem and had to go under 3000 photos and then it worked.

hope this helps.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

Try updating the Zoombrowser software.

If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.

If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.

Communication Error

Try connecting the camera to another computer. Is the camera reading the same error? If not, it's a computer issue.
If the camera is reading the same error, see if there's a way to restore camera back to the factory settings, and try all over again. Good luck :)

Pictures cannot be download

When you try to transfer a large number of files (or a single large file) from a PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) device, such as a Sony Memory Stick, you may receive an error message saying that your computer cannot detect your camera or that, although it has detected the camera, the current picture cannot be copied. This happens because in older versions of WinXP the PTP driver limits file transfer to 2,048 files at one time and those files must be less than 210MB. If you update WinXP with Microsoft's latest service pack you should eliminate the problem.
