You could remove the hard drive from the unit (take it to a local computer shop) they may be willing to do this as a safe gesture. Once you hold the hard drive, you hold all of the data.

The screen on my apple ibook laptop is black, whats wrong with it?

First make sure your screen brightness is not turned down. If not, and the computer can still turn on, chances are it's the logic board or display that has gone out. Your computer will need to be repaired by a specialist.

A fine vertical blue line running through imac screen

How long is a piece of string? is the kind of question you've asked. I've a sneaking suspicion you'll get sick and tired of it before it finally goes.

A1005 Battery and power supply fine - but not starting

A1005 is an inexact marketing identifier covering pretty much the entire line of G3 iBooks.
Complete failure to start -- unless it is caused by something trivial like a broken start button -- without any startup or error tones, points to basic logic board failure. A machine this stone dead for no apparent reason is unlikely to be revived, and almost certainly not by third-world techs who don't know Macs. It is debatably cost-effective to resuscitate a sub-GHz G3 iBook from such a failure, compared to replacing the unit with another new or used Mac. The drive in the old Mac can be extracted so as to preserve your data, and can be inserted into an external USB or FireWire case to be accessible to a new Mac.

Ibook display problem

You can reset the pmu this might help to stable the display, this is only used as a last resort and not a possible solution.
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press the Power button to restart the iBook computer.

Is it possible to reset G4 ibook, without any disk?

hi,
Here are the steps how you can reset the user / password in your notebook.

1. Reboot
2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
mount -uw /
    • rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    • shutdown -h now
  1. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you're good to go again!

IBook never completes loading, stuck at ble progress bar

I am running off memory, but I belive you can also hold either Option or Command key at chime startup and it will give you a visual option with booting to hard drive or disk drive.

Try that and see if it will show the option to boot from CD.

I would suggest probably reinstalling OS X

My iBook G4 continues to run slowly and/or freeze

Try resetting the PRAM by turning on the iBook then holding option + command + P + R and wait till u hear another chime. If it still freezes, it may indicate an application may be causing it to lock up hold shift after you hear the chime to boot OS X into safe boot.

This is nearly impossible to diagnose via the Web. It sounds like the logic board is at fault, but not necessarily.

Has the hard drive been replaced yet? Computer hard drives have a 4 year average life. the last g3 shipped in 2002.................The G3 ibook was also infamous for bad logicboards or separated GPUs. Check
