Nothing comes on. I plugged the tv back on, the green light blinked for about 30 seconds. I turned on the tv, I heard the crackling, then heard the fan come on, heard the fan whinning down to a stop. Heard the crackling again, heard the fan come on again, whinned down to a stop. Did this 3 times before the tv automaticaly shut off again.

I guess I will have to call a repair man. Bought this approx 4-5 ago. What do you think would be a fair repair quote?

  • f_rojas866 Nov 06, 2010

Thank you very much Tim. I really appreciate your help.

Tim. My son just told me that he was watching the tv when it went out. He said he heard a loud pop and the little red light in front of the tv went on. Does that help any?

No problem.. so the only sound you hear is a "crackling" sound, no regular sound coming from the speakers? No display at all on screen, even things like the MENU or volume indicators on the TV don't come up on screen?

Thanks, let me know here, sounds like major hardware trouble though..

Sounds like a failed or at least failing power supply / power board
    inside the TV.
Unfortunately this is a very difficult repair, and unless you are an
electrician I would not recommend attempting it. You will want to
contact a local TV repair person in your area if you are sure this is
out of warranty, more on that in a bit here. This is actually the
most common problem with this type of TV, I see it every day, it just
happens - sometimes with new TVs and sometimes it takes many years for
    it to happen.

    If you think it may
still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an
RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not
a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free
extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please
contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they
will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

    If
you want to attempt the repair yourself please let me know and I will
get you the part number and a place you can purchase it from for what
    you need.

So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a power issue internally.

    Thanks

    Tim

On this TV you are looking at around $300 I'd estimate for the repair if you can find someone that is very good and won't overcharge like crazy...

But it varies area to area, but that should be close.

Light above shower makes crackling sound

If the light is flickering with the crackling, it's probably the sound of electricity arcing that you're hearing. This needs immediate attention by someone who knows electricity as it could be a fire hazard.

Is the cooling fan working? If the fan is not working lamp may be overheating. Check to make sure the fan is working. I believe the fan should be on all the time.

Sound crackle on warmup, now no sound at all

Turn your volume up slowly if you can hear audio. If no audio at all. Could be loose/cut wiring on the speakers. If both speakers are dead could be fault on amplifier side.

Continuous crackling from TV speakers

I'm sure you have figured this one out. TV itself is causing the problems.
The circuit board that produces the audio signal seems to be the problem.
Before you call the repairman, go to the web site Shopjimmy.com just to get an idea of what the parts will cost. That way he doesn't rip you off.

I hope I answered your question correctly. Please rate me. :)

This sounds similar to the same problem I had with my TV. I went out and purchased a new light thinking it was the source of the problem, but I was wrong. It turns out the color wheel and fan went bad and it cost roughly $575.00 for the parts and labor to fix it. My tv was the hlr6167w

Sound but no picture

As a former television technician for a well known electronics store. This problem can be one of many problems. It can be a short of the main board, the y or x boards (either sus or buffer). But the most likely issue, since you still have sound, is that the panel went bad.
