Question about Sunpentown SC-1600 10-Cup Rice Cooker

1 Answer

Rice takes on a rotten odor when used as a warmer. Can't eat it because it smells so bad. We have always had a rice cooker/warmer and never had this problem before. Could it be a bad batch of rice?

My rice getting bad after 6 hours, l think it not keep warm enough , how do i make it warmer

You shouldn't keep rice warm that long. Rice is a high risk food item and has the dangerous risk of a bacterial, toxin infection to users from Bacillus cereus

I would just buy a new rice cooker if there is any problem with it.

My 2yrs old tiger rice cooker. My complain was the quality of the rice is always soft and wet(but not as soft as the porridge), even if it was on the right setting and the water level requred. I also found...

Rice comes in different qualities. For Basmati rice, buy 'Aged Rice' which is stored for 1 year. Or use Uncle Ben's Converted Rice. With Jasmine or Sticky Rice, buy the best quality.

Regarding the liquid content. Go by volume, one part rice to 1.75 parts water.

Rice is a high risk item for Botulism food poisoning. Cook it and eat it within 2 hours. Don't let it cool down in the rice cooker and never leave it there and reheat it. If you are making fried rice, cook the rice, remove it to a tray and chill it in your fridge. Use within 3 days, cook and heat to 165'F

The white rice turns brown and it smells after only 2 or 3 days.

Nothing. Cooked rice should be immediately refrigerated if not used and used within a couple of days, to do otherwise can be fatal.

Your cooked rice is discolouring due to either bacterial or fungal growth, either due to remaining spores in the cooker between each load, or just due to environmental effects. So far, you've been extremely lucky not to suffer very severe food poisoning.

Most of my experience with the rice cookers is that they require a japanese rice Cup which is different than the japanese regular cup. makes a whole lot of not sense but i found a replacement cup at one of the local Japanese Markets if you had to you could use regular measuring cup and use the 160ml for your measure. also the cup has a "Inomata" on it so maybe the web can help you

Rice cooking

if that rice when cooked is too soft or too hard.. then , you might want to add more water to it. the correct ratio for cooking rice is always 1 cup rice and 1 cup water. it also depends on what type of rice your cooking though, some type of rice become too mushy when too much water is added... so always have some minimal water to the uncooked rice.

Rice

hi!

i love eating rice.

when you want to cook rice in a rice cooker, the ratio is 1:1.

1 cup of uncooked rice is to 1 cup water.

just be sure you use the same cup.

hope you will have a delicious rice meal!

Mushy after less then 24 hours

It's not meant to keep in there for a few days. A few hours would be the max, say for a party for instance. When you are done with the rice, take it out and put it in your refridgerator.
