Question about Whirlpool Dryers

Open Question

I replaced a Thermocouple on a Whirlpool dryer model LE5800XKW1. Unfortunately I got the wires mixed up with the heating element. So I have four wires and don't know which to connect where. Two wires both red connect back to a common black, so I am expect one these goes to the heating element, and one to the thermocouple. I have a white and red wire left. Which goes where?

SOURCE: dryer sensor: white wire & blue wire hook up to what side of sens

The wire terminals may be different sizes, to only go on one way. If not, no big deal....the radiant sensor acts just like an in line switch, so it really will not affect the operation whichever way the wires go on.

SOURCE: I need to change the dryer power cord on my Amana

The two wires on either side of the power cord are your HOT leads. They are the voltage carrying conductors. These two wires will connect to the terminal block on the RED and BLACK wires. The middle wire is NEUTRAL and goes to the WHITE wire at the terminal block. Now...with a 3-wire configuration you will need to connect a grounding strap to the neutral wire and ground it to the grounding lug of the appliance. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r793520-3_prong_4_prong_power_cord_conversion

The main difference between 3 and 4 wire configuration is how the neutral and ground wires are installed. In a four wire configuration these two are independent of each other. In a 3 wire configuration ground and neutral are connected together.

If you have any questions about this repair, please ask me. I hope this helps you.

I have a whirlpool gold model number geq9800lw0. I need to know how the thermal fuse and cut off are wired with the heating element. Think I may have gotten some wires mixed up.

They are usually wired in series, the wire comes from the control to the thermal fuse, then from the fuse to the thermostat and then from the thermostat to the heating element, then from the heating element to the control.

Won't heat during cycle

If you have a multimeter you can UNPLUG the dryer and open the back panel.
You can check the heater element if you have continuity and you don't see it burned up it is probably OK. This should read low ohms usually 24ish( rough guess, reasonably close is probably ok) as they do vary. Low number is prob good.

The thermocouple should be above it on the back of the vent usually higher up it will have 2 contacts more than likely. This shuts the heater coil off if it gets too hot. It will also keep the dryer heater in the dryer from turning on if it is bad. This should read infinite ohms no continuity cold. You can "ghetto test" this by heating it in a frying pan and seeing if it closes( 0+ ohms or continuity. You should also replace the thermostat. (looks kind of like the thermocouple 3+ contacts) at the same time. You can test the thermostat as well but these are occasionally different so I would need a model number.

If you find a bad thermocouple you need to make sure that metal vent area there behind it is clear of lint and other garbage. This is a fire hazard and if found is probably what caused the thermocouple to fail.

Hope this helps!

The motor is rated 1/6 hp (about 125 watts) @120VAC while the heating element is rated 5400 watts @240 VAC. Click on link below for some insights. The make are different but the wiring are the same

My dryer is having a problem getting hot, Is there a heating element that can be replaced?

Good day,
The heating element could be your cause only if it is shorted. With the dryer unplugged, remove the 2 wires going to the heating element. Check each terminal to the case of the dryer. It should read zero ohms to either terminal. If it reads any resistance below 10,000 ohms then it will need to be replaced.
However, it is more likely that the venting system, both external or internal. causing your problem.

Here is how you get to the internal components.

I have a Whirpool Dryer model 3LEN 2000PW1 It runs but does not heat?? Four years old. Could it be the heating element?

Hello there:
Heating element Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable. Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

A dryer ( Whirlpool ) , either heats or no heat . If it heats , then the vent is partially clogged , either in the hose , or between the dryer and the outside . Disconnect the vent , and dry a load , checking the air flow . If good , then to the outside is restricted .

first you nead to unplug the dryer, next you nead to remove the vent hose, next you nead to remove the back panal and the power cord cover,on the left side you will see the heater housing,at the bottom you will see the heating element, there are four wires, the two at the bottom are hooked to the element, you nead to pull them off,the other two wires are hooked to the high limit switch, you nead to pull them off, next there are two 1/4"screws,one on each side off the heating element, remove them, now pull out on the bottom of element, with element removed, remove the high limit switch from old element and put it on the new element, take new element and put it back in the heater housing and replace the two 1/4" screws, you will see that the two wires that go to the element are biger than the two going to the high limit switch, put the two wires to the element, now replace the two wires to the high limit switch, replace the back panal and the power cord cover, replace the vent hose, plug power cord in and check element out.
