You are right. I could be a motherboard problem. But before we jump to conclusions let us rule out the OS problem too.
Take a backup of your data to a CD or something and do a reinstall of the Windows. This way you would not regret later if the MB turns out to be good later on. But, a backup of the data is a must before.
