Question about Vacuums

Open Question

I have a dyson animal dc17 vacuum and it totally died. Now I can't figure out which wires go where when I install my new motor. (motor #: 160906G) Do you happen to know where the various color wires go or a place I can see a diagram of the motor with wires attached? I should have taken a photo of it before tearing out the old motor. I don't know where to connect the three coming out from the upright portion of the machine and the red seems to go to a switch (?) and there is a black (connected to the switch) and white coming from the base of the vacuum. The motor has three places for wires, two on one side and one on the opposite. How do I know which wire goes where? Thank you!

SOURCE: Power shuts off on my dyson dc17 animal

My DC 17 Animal would only work when the brush was in the down position & the hose attachment wouldn't work at all. There was no suction. We had to take it in to be serviced & discovered that there is another filter in the system that Dyson doesn't tell you about. The person at the service center said he sees this problem a lot with this model because there is nothing about it in Dyson's consumer documentation.

SOURCE: Electrolux Model E switch wiring diagram

The black wire coming from the power cord connects to one side of the switch and the other black and the red wire go to the other side of the switch. If it turns on with the switch in the off position reverse the sides. Good luck. If you need anymore help just ask. Please rate me so I know if I helped. Thanks.

SOURCE: dyson dc17 animal

on the bottom plate are 3 spots, one in the center and one at each corner, that need a flat head screw driver to loosen. turn left to unlock, this will remove the plate so you can clear the debris from the brush.

That actually sounds correct, if it's the model I'm thinking of. As long as you're talking about connecting to the wires that are held in by the wire nuts you should be good to go.

We checked everything on the vacuum, except the motor. Is there a way to check? Vacuum just stopped running. Its a Dyson DC17. Thanks!

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC17 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage - I'd also recommend washing the filter. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 24 hours.

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1463&product=DC17-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Jack

Dyson Animal DC17 motor won't stay on

You will need to have the button replaced. Dyson power buttons are notorious for breaking because just a gentle push is all that is required and they can break if they have been pushed down roughly.
