Question about Toshiba MK3008GAL Hard Drive

I purchased a new Toshiba MK3008GAL 30GB hard drive for a Zune. I installed the drive and it powers up. I have formated the Zune and tried to reload the firmware but get an out of space error code (C00D124f) saying there is not enough space. I have followed Microsoft's procedures to resolve the error, but have had no luck. I made registry changes that allow me to view the Zune in my computer, but the disk space only shows up as 1 GB. tried this on 3 different computers with the same results. Has anyone ran into this issue before?

Yes take it out and then put the bad oe back in and power it back up and it will rest code then pull the bad one back out and put the good one back in hook it back up then power it up whith the zune program running who must have windows 7 to make it work right if have more ? email at master142838@hotmail.com

You would probably encounter less problems just replacing your iPod's HD with a new one.

RapidRepair sells them for $110 for an 80g, and their instructions are pretty good.

It looks like they might actually be interchangable, but in my experience 1st Gen Zunes have a lot of problems, especially with the batteries and HD's.

You will need a docking station but you don't say whether the drive has an IDE or Sata connection. IDE being older and sata is current. Your pc will just see it as another device and will let you explore the files and copy them.

Repair or toss broken hard drive?


if the drive makes a clicking sound it needs to be tossed. if it's just a soft trgg sound, (bad sector) then you can try a low level format LLF tool. a guide on how to install drive is a Zune Repair

I would think you need to reinstall the firmware. That or maybe your zune doesnt work with that drive.

30gb zune only has black screen


Try these ideas first, except calling for service since it's out of the warranty: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931912. If this doesn't work then, you'll have to erase all the content on your Zune through the buttons on it and use the Zune software to restore the firmware and getting it to boot again. If this doesn't work, then the hard drive may be bad in the Zune and will need to be replaced. If the hard drive is bad, you'll usually hear a lot of repetitive clicking. I hope this helps.
