b> Windows Media Player is a dynamic media player that comes included with Windows operating system.

According to the Microsoft website, Windows Media Player 12 plays nearly every video format, including 3GP, AAC, AVCHD, MPEG-4, WMV, WMA, and most AVI, DivX, MOV, and Xvid. So, before you begin, you may want to be sure you have the most up-to-date version.

Open the file in Windows Media Player. If it is not the default player on videos, simply right-click on the file, select "Open With" and choose Windows Media Player. Pause the video on a clear frame. Windows Media Player will begin playing the video automatically, so you just need to pause it on a frame that you think you will be able to use as a template for the rest of the movie. Access the Now Playing menu (this is in the upper left-hand corner). Click on it to pull down more options. Select "Video Settings" from the Enhancements submenu. This will open up a small panel at the bottom of the window with various image adjustment meters. Slide the "Brightness" control a little to the left to brighten the image. The image will stay the same until you press "Play," at which point you can view the effects of the new settings. Repeat Step 5 until you find the right brightness. Close the Video Settings menu by pressing the red "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the menu screen.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-media-player-12 b> Brightening the video may give the image a bit of a "washed out" look. Remedy this by tinkering with some of the other settings in the menu. Increasing the Saturation often helps with this problem.

How can I get my dvd to copy videos when it reads, No Disk? when there's a disk in the player?

hi, possible problem with the dvd, the lens doesn't read the disc or the spindle motor not rotating that is why can not read a disc. try to clean first with a cd lens cleaner, just insert a cleaner to the player to remove dirt and might the lens get sticky. now if still doesn't work, you will need to remove the cover of the player to access the internal part. check for broken part or any obstacle that can block the rotation of the spindle motor.if the motor doesn't rotate anymore you can check the resistance if still there using an analog tester. if no resistance at the pin terminal of the motor, the coil was worn out then you will need to replace the motor.

I have a Toshiba DVD Video Player Model SD 260. I

Hello, The problem could be dirt on the surface of the lens, you can clean this by removing the cover of the dvd player . Gently use a dry cotton bud to clean the lens because the lens is fragile. Insert the disc plate into the dvd player and press play, if it does not play try the second method. Ensure the cover of the player is open, connect the power plug to the mains socket and observe the lens if it beam a red light, Also check the ribbon cable use to connect the lens to the printed circuit board, then gently clean the lens with a dry cotton bud , insert the disc plate and press play to see if it play. If it does not play the disc, then this require a change of the lens

Can't read discs

Is power getting to the drive? Will the tray open and light blink when closing the drive?

If so, it sounds like the lens may be dirty. There are several things you can try: Gently blow into the open drive, use a vacuum, purchase a lens cleaner.

Play dvd nothing - play s/d card (video) sound but no picture.

You need to update the dvd softwear. Check the default settings for playback of media,if it is set to windows media it won't work if you hav'nt installed the correct updates. Choose the Toshiba dvd player as the default player and it should work. If you prefer windows media then you can get the updated codecs from ' free-codecs.com ' Easier still, try uninstalling your windows media player and installing windows media 11, this will usually resolve the problem.

Hello tango13

(01) Which partition(s) is/are FAT32?

(02) Which partition(s) is/are NTFS?

(03) Do you mean your OS partition is FAT32?

A Microsoft Windows OS on FAT32 cannot "see" NTFS partitions. Conversely though, it can see FAT32 and NTFS partitions if the Microsoft OS partition is NTFS.

(04) If your OS is on a FAT32 partition, you need to convert it to NTFS if it is to be able to "see" other NTFS (and FAT32) partitions.

(05) If I didn't understnd you correctly, please, in detail, explain the problem again and tell us what the file system is on each of the partitions you refer to.

(06) What did you install from Toshiba OEM discs?

(07) Do you mean that, after performing one reinstall of WinXP Home that you then used the Toshiba System Restore CDs to restore the system again? (effectively wiping out the 1st reinstall of Windows XP you said you performed)?

(08) What precipitated your reinstalling your OS in the 1st place? (I ask because the reason(s) may be connected to the issues you are currently experiencing.)

(09) Your media player and codec issues are not related to your file system issue(s).

(10) How many **DIFFERENT** commercially-produced DVDs have you attempted to play in your laptop's DVD ROM drive?

(11) The DVD ROM drive spinning and not being able to read your DVDs is either (1) a media compatibility issue or (2) the media is dirty or damaged, or (3) a mechanical issue w/ your DVD ROM drive. In any case, I seriously doubt if it is a software issue. IOW, I believe it is a hardware issue.

(12) Make sure of the following:
(A) The movies you are attempting to play are actually on DVD media and not Blue Ray or some other media type that is incompatible w/ your optical drive (DVD ROM drive).
(B) The media (discs) are clean and not scratched, warped or otherwise damaged.

Please, post back here w/ answers to these questions along w/ any more questions, observations, or comments you might have. Let us know also what else you've tried in attempts to correct the issues you're experiencing.

Thank you
BJ @:)

Toshiba dvd rom sd r6012 isn't reading the DVDs

Try some factory CD and DVDs and just try to get them to open in Windows (not play in a media player program). If you get errors on every disc you try, it may be your CD/DVD hardware packing in.

If it reads some CDs or DVDs and not others, particularly media discs, you may be having software driver problems, otherwise, it is likely hardware.

Try inserting the disc and spinning it up while resting the laptop on its side, or even upside down. If it reads sideways or upside down, the CD/DVD reader hardware has gone and cannot probably be prepared (this is a symptom of physical controller failure and is ot fixable by normal means).

Good luck...
