I suggest to reinstall the Vedio Drivers for your Notebook.

Windows xp was installed on a compac armada 1750 was worling fine but after an hr or so it shut off and now wont boot or run windows all i get is black screen with window xp and 30 sec coutdown and......

On *********** board, there will be a battery, take that out and put it back in. if you have the OS disk. put it in. shut off computer, turn it back on press enter to boot from disk. either re format your hdd by deleting the partioned space or repair.

Check MS minimums here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314865

It will tell you if there is any chance in hades of installing XP but if you only 'meeting' and not exceeding, you will be disappointed.

If (as I suspect) you are running 98se, you might be better off reinstalling.
I am not enamored of the differences.

Unable to boot, I can't installed WIN98

Hi,

NTLDR is NT Loader which indicates that the hard disk originally contains an NT OS such as Windows XP. The laptop not reading the installer is possibly a CD ROM or CD disc problem. Most (but not all) NT OS would be using an NTFS type of HD format. Windows 98SE would only read and install on a FAT(32).

What perhaps you can do is to remove the HD from the laptop and using an external 2.5 interface to USB connect it to a 2nd PC and re-partition that HD as well as format it to FAT32. You can also make that HD bootable (do a Google) and copy the entire CD installer of Windows 98SE to a folder inside that HD.

Once back to the laptop, it should boot to a C: prompt, go to the folder where the Win98SE installation/setup files are located and run setup.exe.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Video probs , screen half size, can't get more than 16 colors

That notebook is too old for XP really. I would either stick with win98 - you can get drivers for the video, sound, modem, etc, from :
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

Or if the laptop has at least 128mb RAM then Windows 2000 will install all the basic drivers for your system and is fully supported on that system.

Boot up with no operating system

When the system starts, hold the F10 key and go into BIOS and set CD Rom as 1st Boot device (in Boot Order). Because most Compaq's would put the BIOS in a hidden NON-DOS partition on the hard drive, you may have to get an OEM recovery disk for that model. Because there is no BIOS to go to, the machine doesn't know it has a CD, HD or Floppy to go to. A boot floppy/CD is no help. Alternative 1: With another desktop and IDE to Laptop HD connector, FDISK (make active partition and hidden partition [5mb]), Format both, copy the cabs from WinME CD to c:\windows\options. Alternative 2: Find the COMPAQ OEM CD for that model. Since there was no exact model number Click here Please indicate whether this is helpful or not.
