I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I went into a store and it was running fine when I parked it. I went to start it again and it acted like it didn't want to upshift into 2nd gear. Then it...

Check you transmission fluid. It sounds like a Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid problem though.

Also there was a Tech Support Bulletin related to the Torque Converter listed. Make sure you have taken your vehicle in to get it taken care of.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION NO. C01 3/8" TORQUE CONVERTER DRAIN BACK VALVE
Issue Date: 01/2003

NHTSA Campaign ID number:
Potential number of units affected: 30,000
Model year(s): 2003
Manufactured: 10/15/2002 - 11/18/2002
Owner notification start date: January, 2003 Defect: 2003 models equipped with a 4.0L engine only.
Consequence: The torque converter drain back valve on affected vehicles may contain a check ball that swells. A swollen check ball will restrict fluid flow to the cooler and cause the transmission to overheat. This could cause transmission damage.
Solution: The torque converter drain back valve assembly must be replaced.

My bravada (2000) has a transmission problem. I took it to an expert and he said it doesnt have a second gear and it will cost 1200 to 1800 to fix. Is there any other way? Is there any recalls on this year...

CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.IF TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER BEEN CHANGED.MAKE SURE ENGINE FINE TUNED AND TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFT CABLE HAS BEEN ADJUSTED.OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFT TO SECOND GEAR. YOU HAVE FAULTY STUCK 1 - 2 SHIFT SOLENOID. OR TORQUE CONVERTER SLIPPING NOT LOCKING UP DUE TO DAMAGED TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH VALVE OR TORQUE CONVERTER FAULTY.

What causes the torque converter not to cut in on a 2005 GMC 2500 sierra, causing the transmission to heat up? This happens when pulling.

the torque converter isnt locking up, if it doesnt lock then it just spins causing the transmission to slip and heat to build. it sounds like you may be looking at a rebuild soon. i suggest going with suncoast transmissions, its what i have in my pulling truck.

Put a new motor in my 1995 2500 4X4 all hook up and transmission doesnt seem to engage and move the truck

check you torque converter to see if it is spinning with the engine running. If not did you forget the flex-plate to torque converter bolts.

The truck does not want to advance into 5th gear(automatic transmission) it revs around 4000+ RPM's. There doesnt seem to be any other problems or issues. If it sounds like it needs transmission fluid,...

doesnt sound like it needs fluid, sounds like lock up for overdrive in the torque converter is bad, or possibly a shift solenoid. i would take it to an auto store and have them scan it, if it doesnt have any codes for it, it is most likely the torque converter

The torque converter spilling oil

i doubt it but ok
usually the torque explodes it doesnt leak
usualy when there is oil all over the torque it is from the seal between the trans and torque or the engine3 rear main seal

You will need to take it to a shop to have your torque convertor solenoid and circuit checked. The torque convertor solenoid has a ball ans seat in it and the ball gets stuck at times and lets your convertor stay engaged. the solenoid shouldn't be more than 50.00 and about 2-3 hrs labor cost, plus top off trans mission fluid.

Torque converter 2002 saturn had it checked and read stuck/off

you can check to see if the torque is stuck on or off with a dealer (saturn/GM)scanner butother than that you gonna have to do it this way,,,if the car starts and you put it in drive and it doesnt stall that means you not lock in TCC torque converter clutch,,,ive never just reaplaced a converter,,,its gonna need a trans rebuild or a new trans,,and the extended warranty is no longer valid since gm dropped saturn, they are not liable anymore,,,,sorry ,,

1999 dodge ram truck automatic trans may be slipping, not sure??

I think you mean they told you that you need to replace the torque converter , which transfers the torque from the engine to the trans
it could be the torque converter but also could be the bands wearing down in the trans
