Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Sears craftsman garage door - no power

I just put in a new capacitor and now I have no power to the opener. The overall connection works and power to the outlet. Do you know why the system has no power? Is there a reset button? It is completely dead.

Thanks.

had a repair man visit. Not the capacitor. Couldn't fix it. RPM sensor was faulty but when replaced, it bypassed the "over ride" margins or something like that. There was more to it than that. I'm just going to replace it.

    Thanks anyway

PS opener was 13 years old.

I've been putting up doors for quite awhile and never had the need to replace the capacitor in an opener. What brought you to do that? Oh wait, there was an old as heck opener that had a cap that spit out stuff if you used the opener more than once. How old is the opener?

That sounds like the back-board (main electronic part of the operator). It sounds like you got hit by lightning (near by) or a power surge. I have never had just a rpm sensor only go bad.

Replacing the opener is a good way to go, by the time you pay for repairing it you can spend abit more and get a new one with a new warranty and new technology.

On average I have found openers last 15yrs.

Keep your door in good running condition and the new opener should last you atleast that long.

Also ask about a surge protector for the opener if you are in an area with alot of storms. Liftmaster makes one that will protect the sensors and wall button and opener incase of lightning and power surges.

Did you install the door sensors? If you did, make sure the light on each one is lit and not flickering. Double check your wiring. Make sure you connected the wires from the door sensors correctly. They are color coded.

My 1/2 hp sears craftsman garage door opener bought in 1992 has stopped working, The motor hums when the remote or wall button is pressed but the door will not move at all. Please help

Most common cause of the problem you describe is a bad start capacitor. Remove the cover from the motor unit. The capacitor is about 5 inches long and 2 inches in diameter.

Garage door motor dead

Keep checking for loose wires. Nothing about changing the gear should cause the motor to stop running. Check the wires on the start capacitor and follow the white wire from the motor and make sure it is connected.

Remotes quit working on Craftsman 53975 garage

It sounds like you have a logic board problem. If your remotes work at all it is not a programming problem. You could pull the logic board and check for loose connections especially around the small transformer. 18 years for an opener is very lucky. Their average life is about 1/2 that.

Intermittant problem

Look at the lights on the safety eyes also. If all of these lights go off at the same time, there is definately a power issue. It is either an issue with the electical outlet or the circuit board.

Brand new craftsman remotes don't work when garage is closed

Yes, it seems to be a frequency issue.  Craftsman usually guarantees 50 foot range on your remotes.  Contact Craftsman, they will probably work with you to solve the problem.
