Question about Samsung HLP5085W 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Open Question

I have a Samsung HLP-5085W DLP TV and continue to get the circular display that shows the triangle icon with a light icon in the lower left corner just below the triangle. The projection screen remains blank. I have replaced the lamp, lamp-ballast and the color wheel to no avail. Are there any other simple fixes that I can try or should I "Bite the bullet" and call a Service Tech? Incidentally, the color wheel was bad and even had a crack in the wheel as well as noisy bearings. There is a small ribbon cable from the color wheel that plugs into the unit and I'm not 100% sure that it's plugged in completely. Could this be causing the continuing dilema? Or, if you think it's the power supply, are there any videos or tips for replacing that piece of circuitry?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: samsung dlp 5085w comes on for four minutes then

It could be one or both, but i would just try the lamp first. There has been only a few times whre i have seen both fail, the lamp can dammage the ballast. But if the lamp is striking the ballist is working to some extent, so i would not assume the ballist is bad at this point. Although if you are still having trouble after the lamp repacement then i would suspect the ballast.

SOURCE: I have a Samsung HLP-5085W

I suspect it is a power supply, and has been the whole time unfortunately. I am not finding any videos for how to change it out, but it is not much more difficult than doing the color wheel and lamp ballast, if you can handle those I think you can do a power supply. Just get the new part, find the old part in the TV based on the new part... and pay attention to how to take it out.. it is not much more beyond that..

I am still checking for a video walk-through for it, or a site with step by step pictures.

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions or concerns, just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

Page 17 of the manual says the black box in the left top corner is the recording mode icon. In this icon you can see what menu you have chosen in the recording mode. In the left bottom of the display is the icon for the drive mode. It tell you if you are taking single pictures continues mode or are taking 5 frames per second (max 30 frames) or taking 3 pictures and compining the three.

Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms you describe.
