If the electrical 120 volt source is single phase, the only way to run this motor is with a single phase to three phase converter. Best to sell the three phase motor and obtain a similar horsepower 120 volt single-phase capacitor-start motor (1750 RPM) for the compressor. You would also require a 3-phase pressure switch for use with the 3-phase motor. Hope this helps!

Why won't the motor start?

1. Bad current. Try not to use long cord.
If the thermic fuse blows out to many times it will be dameged and needs replacement.

2. It is possible that the non return valve is dameged and does not release pressure from the tank until the pump = like startig a car in gear.

3. Pressure switch dameged. Thet are calculated to for a certain on and of cycle. It will wear off. Try to instal a condor switch they are quite good.

4. If it is 3 phase engine it is possible that one phase is missing. Or it is connected wrong. Check the dirrection of the pump. Thre phase electric motors will spin in the other direction too if not connected properly.

5. Pump damage. Not likely if it sounds right. And has enough oil.

Advice: do not let the compresdpr work mor then 10 minutes. It has to cool down.

Try to see if the electric motor over heats: not enough electricity or you motor is half way burned.
It smells funny?

How do I wire my puma 220v sigle phase air compressor with s-p40t motor starter?

You contactor /motor starter has connection for up to three phase /L1 thru L3. You will be only using L1 and L2 connectors for power-in/ line and using meter find cross connector for connecting load / motor (usually white and black or red from the motor). The contactor has a push button to test your work (use meter to test before actually wiring up motor and line). The contactor is controlled by separate switch (usually pressure switch on the compressor) using proper voltage as required by magnetic switch of s-p40t. Good luck

Hi,I got a Ingersoll Rand type 30 model 234 compressor. It looks good but it has no motor.I'm thinking like 120v,3horses?,but not sure about rpm.any help would be nice.thanks

According to the information you provided your looking at a 10 HP motor at three phase. Do you have three phase at your location? If not I would look into getting a single phase compressor. If you do want to get it going I would notify your local IR dealer so they can get you the right Model number, RPM, Pulley and Motor Frame Size to match your unit.

Please read below....Jim...if this helped you please send me a positive response...Thanks!

My compressor suddenly quit cycling what went wrong?

hi there!
there are several factor on cycling failure, most common on it is the pressure switch device, checking on this, plug out or switch off main circuit breaker for compressor, disconnect pressure switch if this is a single phase connection, there are two supply wire coming in and two wire coming out on pressure switch.direct connection of compressor motor on power supply to test if it is cycling manually, after direct connection of motor compressor to power supply w/out pressure switch, switch on for 5 to 10 minutes o build a low [pressure then swict off again, then switch on again even there is a low pressure observe if there is cycling motor running if this done replace pressure switch.if still have same problem motor tripping another case not to cycle bring this to electric motor service center.have a nice day dont forget to fix my rate.

I would like to connect a pressure switch to the motor starter

hi! there, single phase compressor motor need a starting capacitor base on the rated capacity in horse power, you can check this on the tag of the compressor motor how many horsepower was indicated,it should be for single phase motor starting capacitor has a capacity of micro farads.for a 1 horsepower = 15 to 18 micro farads stating capacitor if you have more than 1 horsepower you can basically proportion the value of capacitor you need or ask the dealer how much capacitor you need on your motor the connection of pressure switch with a four terminal should be connected both on common line L1 and running capacitor line L2 .if you open the cover of pressure switch there are 4 terminals,2 terminals are connected when normally close or no pressure they connected on series connection on the common line one terminal connected to common line of the compressor and the other terminal on L1 to the pushbutton switch to L1 supply line.the 2 other terminals also connected in series withe line capacitors L2 to yhr power supply line.hope this will help you a lot.just rate my fix thanks a lot.

I have a ingersoll rand type-30,model#2475 7.5 hp,3 phase.need a wire diagram or how do you wire up the low oil and pressure switch? this is a used compressor with wiring still conected, has 3 leads to the...

from what you are describing it sounds like you are missing a couple wires somewhere or you do not know what you are looking for. The pressure switch, low oil switch motor starter coil, and overload relay should be wired in series to provide a control circuit for the motor starter. I would highly advise seeking the help of a certified electrician if you are not experienced in working with these machines. You can not only risk personal injury, but also damage a lot of expensive electrical item's real quick if it is not done correctly.

do not connect any powercord directly to your motor wires. if second hand compressor i would get the motor tested first. lead possibly cut off for reason.

How do i connect he differenial pressure switch into the 3ph star/delta starter circuit?

Your question is a bit unclear, but I assume you are asking how to wire the pressure switch in a piston compressor.

See the diagram, below.

You should have a wire from the L1 (first incoming main voltage) terminal to the pressure switch, and from the other pressure switch terminal back to the starter coil. You will also have a wire from L2 (second main voltage terminal) to the overload, and from the other overload terminal to the other side of the coil. In this arrangement, the motor starter coil must be rated at the SAME VOLTAGE as your incoming power.

This diagram works the same for single phase machines (they just don't have the third wire coming from the supply through the starter and overload to the motor.

If your machine has other safety controls (like a low oil switch), It can be wired in series with either the pressure switch or the overload.

Air compressor switch

That means that when the switch is turned on , and the complessor is pluged into a power outlet, the electric motor will start when the air pressure in the tank drops below 80 psi.and the motor will stop when the pressure reaches 100 psi.

please rate this,
