Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Turn off the printer and open the cover where the ink cartridge is located.
Remove the print cartridge from its slot. Look for a sticker on the cartridge stating it is the right HP print cartridge. If it is the wrong type of cartridge, or if the cartridge has been refilled, replace the cartridge with the right HP cartridge..
Remove the cartridges again and unplug the printer. Dampen a lint-free cloth with water and gently wipe down each one of the cartridges. Avoid touching the nozzles or the electrical strip on the cartridge.Wipe from the top of the contact to the bottom. Do this for each contact Place the cartridges back into the printer and turn the machine back on.
Turn the HP printer on. Use the printer to print a test page. If this does not correct the problem, move on
Remove the cartridges and check to make sure the electrical strip along the bottom of each cartridge is not damaged or ripped. If the cartridge is new, make sure the plastic protective tape has been completely removed. Place the cartridges back into the machine and turn it back on.
This should clear it.

This is the proper procedure andif this fails, take it in for service.

Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
