How can I tell which of the sockets is bad ? Can they be replaced? Is this work for a tech or would I be better off replacing with 2x2 GB.RAM?

DIMM slots appear to be OK. I tried installing RAM in slot 4 (plus 1&2)and got distorted screen. RAM in all 4 slots gets me nothing. RAM in slots 1,2,&3 gets nothing. I think it is a software problem not a hardware problem.

What you are saying is that I have to get memory from Acer only ,even though other memory has same specs.

This problem is related to incompatibility between RAM memory. For that make sure all RAM has same frequency and same company. Always different frequency of RAM creates this problem. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Most likely the motherboard does not take more than 1 Gb of RAM. If so then you will have to do with 1 GB only. The new RAM is fine as it works alone.

Acer desktp internal ram installation needed

I'm a bit confused....did you have all four of these in the ACER and are trying to put the 2x1GB into the Emachine? And that the 2x1 GB wouldn't work in the Emachine but they did in the ACER and that the 2x512 Acer cards worked in the emachine?

If that is what happened here is my best guess. The ACER MOBO will support 533/667/800 MHZ DDR2 RAM. The Emachine will only support 533 RAM. Iys possible the 2x1GB are either 667 or 800 MHZ and are not compatible with the Emachine but will work in the ACER.

Acer aspire m1100 desktop getting a no signal on monitor, how do I get my pc to open

My Acer Aspire M1100 would not boot and had no signal to the monitor. I thought the video card or motherboard had gone bad. I tinkered with it for over 2 years (yes I'm hardheaded) and finally realized the processor had worked itself loose. Reseated the processor and it works fine again. Hope this helps someone.

2GB (2x1GB) Dell 184pin PC3200 DDR400 DIMM Memory Kit (p/n 311-3483). After I physically install the ram are there any software changes I have to do? Thanks Mario

No software changes to apply. After installing the RAM, boot the computer up. A DOS type screen will pop up stating "The amount of memory has been changed, hit F1 (I believe it is F1) to continue". Continue and you will be on your way to enjoying a much more productive computer!

PS Make sure the 2gb memory has been recognized by right clicking on My Computer and viewing the specs.

Hope this helps!

Memory installation

bev,
all the DIM's must be of same type and same size to work, otherwise it creates problem, like no boot, boot with lowest memory etc.

There is no problem in your PC, its technical issue you can not use two ore more different type RAM at the same time in a motherborad.

Thanks
Iqbal
