Question about Pramac 5000 Watt Generator

I am having trouble starting after it set for 6 months. I drained the gasoline and put new gas in. It cranks with starting fluid but will not keep running

Remove the float bowl and clean out the debris where the bowl nut screw into the carb. Also make sure the bowl nut itself is clean. The fuel jet is directly above the bowl nut. When they sit for any length of time water from condensation causes corrosion that falls to the lowest part of the carb and clogs the jet. Check fuel flow by turning on the fuel while the bowl is removed. It should fill a spray paint can lid in 8 - 10 seconds or less. Make sure to spray carb cleaner into the bowl nut threaded area to clean the tiny jet orifice hole. You may have to use a toothpick to remove debris in this area. Do not force the toothpick into any holes. Use it like a scraper. Let me know if this does ot get you going. There is more that can be done.

    The more I researh the more I find out there are actually 2ngines that came on this generator. One being a Honda GX270 / GCAB- and the other being a Subaru 9 HP OHV engine. Both carbs are similar.

    The very first thing you do is take a picture of the linkages for your governor and carb. Not doing this can result in not connecting the linkages correctly after removing the carb.

    Before carb removal:

    1. Turn off the main fuel line to the engine.

    2. Remove the main fuel hose

    3. Use a catch basin and check incoming fuel flow. It should be a rapid gravity flow of fuel.

    If you still do not have good fuel flow from the main fuel line:

    1. Remove the fuel tank cap and see if fuel flow increases. (Vapor lock check)

    2. Remove the inline fuel filter if installed and check fuel flow

    3. Worst case... there is something blocking the fuel tank outlet port.

    Known good fuel flow to carb:

    1. Remove the carb. (AFTER YOU TAKE PICTURES!!!!!!)

    2. Remove the float bowl (Again)

    3. Using a thin bladed screwdriver... remove the BRASS throat jet located inside the barrel of the float bowl nut threaded area. (CCW to remove) This will be about 5/16" inch thick once removed.

    4. Set the jet aside and remove the BRASS fuel tube (CCW to remove) This will be about 2 inches long.

    5. Clean the Jet and the fuel tube with carb cleaner. The jet will only have a pin hole.. the fuel tube should have at least one hole in the side of it that must be clean along with the full length of the fuel tube.

    6. Shoot carb cleaner into the hole where the fuel tube and jet were installed.

    7. Lift the float while carb is inverted and spray carb cleaner in the needle and seat area until you note carb cleaner exiting the main fuel connection.

    8 in the throat of the carb as you would look at it from the air cleaner side there should be one possibly 2 BRASS tubes facing you or at least visible. Spray carb cleaner into BOTH holes.

    8. Re-install the fuel tube in the base of the carb.

    9. Reinstall the jet

    10. Install float bowl

    11. Install carb and connect linkages AND springs in the ORIGINAL positions

    12. Start engine normally

    This should get you going... if not... then the carb is going to have to be soaked in some B-12 Chemtool for about 6 hours and then blown dry with air pressure.

    There should be fuel flow with float bowl removed... anytime the float is below horizontal. If this is not happening... the engine will never run normally.

    One more oh by the way.... make sure the engine is full of OIL. There is a chance the Low oil level sensor is shutting off spark. Starting fluid can make an engine diesel even if there is no spark. Just for grins check the spark..... after your make sure the engine is full of oil.

Engine won't stay running - only will start with starting fluid.

VERY COMMON problem with gas engines.

I recommend starting all your gasoline using machine ever month or two. Let them run a few minutes. Same with cars/trucks.

Start you r car/truck every couple months and drive forward and backward several feet as well.

If you have a gas shutoff valve, turn it off and run engine till all gas is out of carb before storing.

Gas turns to a hard lacquer is sitting too long. remove air cleaner covers, Pour some real good (strong/thorough) carb cleaner in carb and leave sit over nite. If that doesn't work, do it another nite. If not working yet, you may have to take carb off and open it up. Be careful there are little tiny parts in there.

I am not sure if this was answered already. However, good to know the following. When i purchased my chainsaw I was told a few words of wisdon. At the end of the season and when your chainsaw is going on the shelf for several months, crank it up, run it a couple of minutes and then shut it off. Then drain all the gas out of it and then crank it up again and open up the throttle. It will run 5-15 seconds and then die out on you. That is good! What you did is remove all the gas/oil out of your chainsaw for storage. I was told, that if I do this, I would never have trouble starting it up. That was 13 years ago and I add new fuel at the start of the season and it cranks up, each and every time!. At this point, I would go with the easy solution to drain all your fuel and put an new spark plug in, add fuel and see if this helps

My mother-in-law put gasoline in the oil fill spout. tiller sat like this for 6 months. was not started. I have drained oil/gas, but still can't get to start

This is a new for me. I suspect that removing the spark plug to put a squirt or two of engine oil on top of piston to lubricate and raise the compression would be a good start. Insure that the spark plug is clean and dry and sparking when pulling the starter rope. Reinstall spark plug and try again. If no success remove air cleaner and with choke open and throttle open give a short squirt (1/2 second only) of ether in intake orfice and start right away. If engine wants to fire the carb. is plugged up with old fuel and will most likely need to be cleaned our rebuilt. Note: 6 months in storage with the fuel not drained or at least stabilized is a major cause of small engines that will not start.

Try a small shot (about a 2 second spray) of starting fluid in the air intake then cranking....

If your bike fires and runs for a bit, the most likely problem is your gas has gone "sour". You need to drain all the old gas out and properly dispose of it.

Over time, gas will cause a varnish buildup in your carb if it sits too long. You can try adding some carb cleaner to fresh gas, but the results will not be immediate. You may have to have the carb rebuilt.

When you store anything gas powered, there is an additive called Sta-bil that will act as a gasoline preservative for about a year.

Unable to crank? Do you mean unable to start?

If you leave gasoline inside tank over long period of time, that will 'gum-up' and ruin carburetor.
To prevent problem, put additive in gasoline or empty gas from tank:: under gas tank should be a hex bolt that holds up gas filter > loosen bolt and drain gas.

Starting the engine:
Take off air filter and spray WD-40 directly into carburetor.
Start engine, engine should fire on the WD-40 accelerant.
If engine fires but does not keep running, try spraying WD-40 into carburetor continuously to see if you can keep engine going.
If engine stops each time after it no longer gets WD-40, then carburetor is bad or gasoline not getting to carburetor or gasoline is bad.
Try fresh gasoline.
Do not turn small engine on side or upside down or oil will get into carburetor.

Check gas supply: Go to gas filter under gas tank. Pull loose rubber hose that connects to carburetor and see if gas comes out rubber hose.
If gas is flowing to carburetor, then carburetor is gummed up.
Small engine repair might suggest 'gum out' or have other suggestions ... but you may need a new carburetor

If engine will not fire on WD-40
If engine will not fire on WD-40 at all, then spark coil may be bad or exhaust port is clogged
Check screen that covers exhaust >> is it covered with carbon and dirt or can air pass through it easily?
Check spark
Remove spark plug
Put spark wire back on spark plug
Hold spark plug by rubber spark cap so hands don't touch metal part of spark plug
Touch spark plug threads against hole where spark plug was removed >>> metal to metal so it conducts electricity
Pull start cord and look for sparking between spark plug threads and metal of engine (don't look at the spark gap ... look where metal meets metal
If you have no spark, the spark coil is bad >> time for estimate from small engine repair shop or get your part number and order replacement

1987 Ecoline van V-8 engine hasn't been started in about 7 years. It ran good before that. What do I have to do first to start it and get it running?

I would change all the fluids and either try dry gas or i would recommend that the gas tank be thoroughly drained and new gas put in the tank.If you have a hard time getting started try to use starter fluid in carburetor or if you have none just use gas. If the vehicle is equipped with fuel injectors locate air filter and follow air duct to engine that is where starter fluid or gasoline will have to be pored to prime the injectors.if it don't start the engine should be tuned up with a major tune up replace all filters ect even if it starts without tune up i would tune it up asap!

Depends what the resulting mixture was.....

Upto about 10% gas won't cause a problem (except maybe a slight drop in power).

More than that, and the entire system will have to be drained. Drain & refil the tank, REPLACE the fuel filter, and purge the line to the injectors by cranking the engine until clean diesel appears at the injector union. Use 'easy-start' and keep spraying - the engine will crank itself - saves the battery and starter.

Re-connect the injector - should be good to go.

Kymco Venox sat for a month and half...trouble starting

Loose the gas additive. Clean the air filter and then install new spark plugs. If the bike has carbs, drain the carbs. .... All fixed!

I have a 79 firebird that hasn't been used for years. i want to flush all the fluids add new ones, jump the car and see if it runs. i just don't know where to start. how do i do a fluid flush?

ok.. oil simply change it and the filter don't forget to add oil to rubber ring.. water jus unhook the hose at the bottom of the radiator using pliers and make sure you have a drain pan.. you can run water through it if it is unclean, otherwise you shouldn't need to flush, then reattach hose and clamp.. fill to top.. the water pump on the vehicle will need to be rotated or cranked to get water into the engine, and refill... be careful not to crank the water pump by hand because that will mess up the timing and you will need to redo that.. tranny fluid should not be changed because if there is a certain amount of metal shavings already in it clean fluid will ruin it, but i suggest checking the fluid level and maybe topping it off if needed there should be a bolt on the side of the transmission that you can take out and put your finger in the hole and the fluid should reach the hole and no lower if it pours out its fine let it level out too much tranny fluid is just as bad as not enough.. you will need to have the car on jack stands as level as possible to do this... also you can disconnect the fuel lines at the carburetor and connect a hose to it turn the key on and the fuel pump should pump out the old gasoline..
