Question about HP Calculators

1 Answer

Standard devation I have the opportunity to purchase a hp 32s calculator and I was wondering if this calculator is capable of figuring standard devations. I can't find a owners manual for this model. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave dpracich@centurytel.net

Try this link if you haven't already, only found 33s myself but haven't had much time to look around the links.

How to calculate mean

The mean is (1+5+9)/3 = 5.
The squared deviations are (1-5)^2=16, (5-5)^2=0, and (9-5)^2=16.
The sum of the squared deviations are 16+16 = 32.
Divided by one less than the number of data points, 32/(3-1) = 16.
The square root of 16 is 4. This is the sample standard deviation.

Removing zeroes?

You're right in that the calculator thinks you have 19 data points. You need to delete the nine unwanted rows. After pressing EDIT, press NXT to bring up the second set of editing functions. Scroll down to each unwanted row and press B for -ROW to delete it.

Or else simply delete the Sigma-DAT variable in the current directory and start over.

for the mean, just add them together and divide answer by the amount of figures you put in. as for the others, i'm not sure a standard scientific calculator will do that
