Water pressure switch may have failed OR the water pressure switch hose has a blockage at the air dome.
On the bottom left rear or right rear of the outer plastic tub where the clear hose is connected, is the air dome. Inspect for brown discoloration. Brown discoloration is an indication of a sludge buildup blockage.

Washer keeps fling with water and will not agitates it will drain and spin

There is usually a small hose from the outer tub to the water level switch. This ia actually a pressure hose to make the water shut off. If a hole is rubbed into it, you loose the pressure and the washer fill will never shut off. That pressure is needed to switch machine from fill to agitate once it reaches the proper fill level.

Sounds like a bad water pump, and or bad agitator motor if the washer will not spin. Breaker probably tripped due to one of the 2 drawing too much current.

Maytag Atlantis Model 8551AWW washing machine...fills up with water...then starts the agitation cycle and will agitate for about 1 minute...then shuts off...after about five minutes the agitation cycle...

1
Unplug the washing machine, and turn off the water supply to the machine. If necessary, remove the water hoses from the back of the washing machine because they may be in the way of the access panel.
2
Check that the agitator is seated correctly by opening the lid of the washing machine. If it's loose, pop off the top of the agitator--if there is one--and tighten the bolt that holds the agitator in place. Or, in some models, simply pull straight up and then reseat the agitator.
3
Remove the access panel located in the back of the washing machine by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. This allows access to the drive motor.
4
Press on the drive belt that works the agitator. If the belt moves more than 3/4 inch, tighten the belt to fix the spinner problem. If the belt is worn or cracked, replace the belt.
5
Replace the drive motor, if tightening or replacing the drive belt doesn't fix the agitator. Purchase a new drive motor at a wholesale retailer. Disconnect wiring, remove screws holding motor in place and insert new motor. Screw into place, and connect wiring.
6
Check for any black substance leaking under the washing machine. This might indicate a clutch problem, if the washing machine spinner is not working. Contact a professional repairman to replace the clutch.

The water will not shut off

If the water will not shut off, the problem is most likely a faulty water level switch. The switch is a diaphragm like device that has a small clear plastic tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As water level rises it, pressure increases on the air in the tube and when it reaches a certain point it activates the switch to shut off the water and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. Look for any obstructions in the tube and the switch can be checked with an ohm meter or multimeter for continuity. If the switch has none it is defective and will have to be replaced. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.

Washer only fills part way before agitation begins

The water level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. The switch is usually a diaphragm like device with a small clear plastic tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level rises the pressure increases on the air in the tube. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch to shut off the water, and signals the timer to start the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you will probably need to replace the switch. Hope this helped.

Agitator wont spin

Water level controls - The water level control is also know as a pressure switch, this is where you set the water level ( small - medium - large ). The water level control is responsible to shut off the power to the fill valve and direct that power to the timer so the washing machine can start up. The WLC has electrical contacts in it that sends power to the fill valve and when the WLC is satisfied the water level is correct the electrical contacts open power to the fill valve and send the power to the timer and the washer starts. Picture of this here. How the water level control knows when it is time to shut the water off is, a air tight hose runs from the outer washer tank to the water level control. As the water fills the outer tank air is pushed up the hose, depending on which setting you have made ( small- medium - large ) is takes a certain amount of this pressure to make the WLC cycle over and shut off the water and send this power to the timer. If this hose develops a leak or a pin hole the washer can over fill as the WLC may not be able to shut the water off. The water level control can also break down and allow the washer to over fill as well.

A couple of tips from readers (Thankx!! ):
~ If you have a loose hose on the water level control or tank end, use a plastic wire tie to help hold the hose tighter and make a tight fit.
~ The water level tube (tube that runs from the square box), access panel on the outer drum where the bleach tube also ends) from the pressure sensor switch (front panel) can become clogged.  Or the two holes from the outer tub into this square box panel on the outside of the outer tub can become clogged. Either clog, I am told by my help repair guy can cause the sensor to think that there is still too much water in the tub and so will not allow motor to activate spin.
~ If the water level control contact is bad, it may also stop the filling ok, but not tell the washer to start agitating.
