I put XP pro service pack 2 on the computer. Fresh install. Now the printer will only print 1 page out of a 4 page doc. also in another program I tell it to print 20 pages / copies and it only prints one page. The printer worked fine with Win98 SE.
You could try using these drivers on the Hp.com. These drivers were from March of 2007.
This was listed at Officejet K550. They didn't have a Pro Printer listed. If there are any letters after the model number you should go to that page instead.

First of all we need to check weather it's a hard ware problem or software
so try to copy something or press a self test page by pressing the x button and the colour copy button together
if that prints fine then it means that its a software issue
now click on the start button go to control panel then open printers
right click on printers and go to properties
print test page from there
if it prints a blank page then go to the advance tab of properties
and go to print processor
then select "winprint" and in next line select RAW
now try to print
if still the same then check the operating system if its windows Xp
then it should be service pack 1 and above
if you do not have service pack download the windows xp service and install it
now try to print
if still the problem persist then please post the exact model number of the printer and the operating system on your computer
i've had the same problem with the same printer. mostly it happens on my vista home premium laptop printing remotely to the printer which is connected to an xp home machine. i found that i need to stop and then start the print spooler. on either of these operating systems you can do this by right clicking on the My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista) icon and choosing "Manage." Once Computer management is open, go to Services and look for Print spooler. Right Click on Print Spooler in the list. choose stop. wait for the print spooler to stop, then right click again and choose Start. That should clear your stuck deleting document.
It's a driver problem not installed properly on the XP machines. Here's what you can do. Install first the driver of the printer directly to the XP machines. Then try to re-do the smart wizard installation.
Try this !
in the software application you are printing from
Open the document that you want to print.
2. On the File menu, click Print, and then click Setup, Properties, or Preferences.
Look for a Best Mode Setting
this printer has several modes one being draft mode, another one best mode
in best mode the printer uses memory to render the photo you are trying to print. Note that in this mode, printing takes longer and more memory is required from your computer. from page 17 of the hp k5400 user manual
Also you may have to increase the virtual memory of the windows pc to allow the computers hard drive to allocate more hard drive memory to the memory swap file if the computer's ram is not enough to print the photo.
It is a setting in the control panel under system - performance.

Likely need to update printer, or at least drivers... Thanks for rating FixYa!
sounds like a memory issues or a windows swap file problem. when printing large docs u need to have some free memory in the computer. Also some printers 2 day used windows memory to print so if your pc only has small amount of free memory it can effect printing out large docs. also with a laptop it shares it memory with the video GPU. so you may need to upgrade your memory in your laptop .
