You can get a battery through your local Motorola dealer or use a search engine to find an online source for the Motorola 53996 Battery.

Best regards.

If it's old then the battery has probably worn out and no longer holds much charge. See if it can be replaced.

Automatic shutdown

Not a real technical solution but if the original battery is still being used then there is a chance the battery is not holding the charge. I've had this issue in the past with a Motorola Droid and after the battery was replaced it held on for a few days instead of a couple of hours. Depending on phone use and charging methods older batteries will not hold a charge for long. I would recommend trying to get a battery saver app from the Google Play store to see if it helps as well. Again, this isn't a real tech solution but I hope this helps you along some. =)

The battery is not staying full it goes to 100% to 50 inless than hour

All rechargeable batteries degrade over time... Eventually it will degrade to the point where it will no longer hold a charge. Fortunately you can buy a better quality battery which will hold a longer charge, but it will be more costly than your original battery.

My battery once fully charged only seems to hold for sometimes a few hours and other times as normal for a week +. Will buying a new battery solve the problem or is it possibly something more sinister? I...

well the weather might have very little to do with this unless you expose your phone to the harsh atmosphere.
it is most likely that your battery has exceeded it's estimated lifespan or is probably damaged. this causes it to loose charge quickly and as such it cannot power the phone properly for a very long time.
the best advice is for you too get a new original battery as there are fakes flooding the markets right now and buying a fake may only worsen the situation.
when you buy a new one, it is advised you charge it fully for about 3 hours before turning on the phone.
hope this helped you? please contact me for more information

Depends on your use. The 9 cell will hold a charge for about 2 hours, depending on your configuration and the 12 I believe is 3-4.

Battery not holding charge

Sounds like your battery is going. Many Mp3 players can have their batteries replaced, the problem is finding someone with the parts or who is willing to do it. I have found that the batteries are usually the same as the iPod shuffles use. The battery is probably soldered onto the circuit board so the shop will need to be able to solder. You may be able to get service from the factory. Hope that helps.
