Having too loud sound cannot damage the unit, the loud maximum sound is design for that unit, when its brand new one or 2 years old its okey. But when 2 to 3 or more years when voluming the maximum the it create a vibration that cause the "solder crack" and results intermittent sound goes on, goes off, that is your problem. You open the unit and got to supply section reheat or resolder the resistor, capacitor diode, transistor and most of all switching IC. when finish, go to audio section, do what u did in the supply section.Bear in mind not tosolder it causes trouble. When reheat all the solder, your unit is good as new.

how are your four outside speakers hooked up? If you have four speakers hooked up to only two output channels on the receiver, the receiver is sensing a short and shutting down to avoid damage to the amp.
Its possible that the Receiver is going into protection mode and possible some speaker cable might have touched the body or with each other. Remove all inputs and outputs and then restart the receiver. If it starts then you are lucky. Connect all cable and wiring properly and ensure that they do not touch each other. You might have to reset the microprocessor also.
If the problem persist then let me know to further the trobleshooting.

Try unplugging the entire unit and letting it sit for 5 minutes. See if this helps. If not, you need to do a complete reboot, which will cause you to lose your settings, but will probably solve your problem. To do a complete reboot, you will need to hold down two of the front bottons on the front panel. I'm not sure which, so either consult your manual or see other posts here which describe the reboot process for Denons. Hope this helps.
Receiver turns on Green but on pressing button again for red light standby, red light will not come on for this Denon receiver. Recently light came on saying Panel Lock is on. I was not able to get tuner to work.
