Temp cut off/cut in

Any thermostat, it's calibrating to cut off at the end of 2nd beginning and cut in 2nd ending of temp.
Ex: In heat mode, If you set @ 68 degree, it will cut off 70 degree beginning and cut in at the end of 66 degree.
In cool mode, if you set at 68 C degree it will cut off at the end of 66 and cut in will be at the beginning of 70 degree.

Sounds like it could be low on freon I believe these units have about 1.5 pounds of freon in them and are critical in not undercharging or overcharging them if it is a freon 410 ac unit the pressures should be about 135 and both lines cold if is low on freon a service tec will need to be called to try to repair the leak if possiable

Since it's within 2 degrees of your setting it could be one of two things. Most furnaces run longer (pass your setting) to maintain the setting you made. Which really not a problem. However, your thermostat may need calibrating. To test this theory, place a regular wall thermometer next to your furnace's thermostat and see if the two temps match when the furnace cuts on and then when it cuts off.
If the temps are both the same, the furnace thermostat is fine.

If you're turning it down to 68, because no one will be at home during the day, just set it 2 degrees cooler than 68 degrees. You will then wind up with 68 degrees.

I just got a new heating unit installed. However it runs constantly. If the target temp is 68 degrees it will hit 68 degrees and just keep running. It does the same at 63 degrees. Is this normal?

Dear friend! Any thermostat, it's calibrating to cut off at the end of 2nd beginning and cut in 2nd ending of temp.
Ex: In heat mode, If you set @ 68 degree, it will cut off 70 degree beginning and cut in at the end of 66 degree.
Hope it's helpful to you?

Your air temp should be at least 20 degrees cooler than the indoor air temp. This is ideal. But it sound like your unit is low on freon. When units get low they will freeze up. They will also freeze up if air flow is restricted on the inside coil or the fan quits on the external unit.

Temp set at 68 degrees but goes to 66 and the heat pump never shuts down has an electric aux

Depending on the outside temp. your heat pump might not keep up with the demand. It is not economical to run your heat pump in temperatures at or below freezing. Doing so could cause compressor failure and these are not cheap to replace. I would be running the aux. electric in low temps.

Air conditioners rely on a difference in pressure between the "high side" and "low side" in order to perform. Of course, a/c's are designed to work in the heat. Having a cooler outdoor temp of 70 degrees probably is not sufficient to maintain adequate head pressure and will result in reduced cooling capacity. Also, since it was 68 in the morning in the room, it is possible that the indoor coil began to freeze up. Basically, you have a cold coil that you keep warm by moving air over it. If the air doesn't have enough specific heat (what your thermometer measures) it can allow the coil to get colder than 32 degrees and the condensate from all of your humidity will begin to freeze on the coil. My recommendation would be to check the a/c on a day that is 80+ degrees. If you have an avarage indoor temp of 70 degrees you should be able to look for the air coming out to be approximately 20-25 degrees colder than the air being sucked in.
