Question about Kenmore 2303x Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Re: Kenmore model 23032 - When washing a load that is on the heavier side (for example 5 bath size towels) the basket does not spin, but the motor runs and the timer works fine. I opened the lid and rotated the basket about 270 degrees, set the timer to spin, and closed the lid, and this time the basket did spin. Load was relatively balanced and I did not change location of the towels oin the basket. There is a slight smell of oil or rubber being heated. What do you think the problem is, and what would it cost for a Sears repairman to come out and repair this problem? Trying to decide to repair or replace.

This is usually caused by the motor coupler. This is very inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a video this will walk you thru this disassembling and replacing a motor coupler in a direct drive machine. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting and replacement will be the same. You can also enter your model # for your specific model to get diagrams and illustrations. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Cost depends on your area, in upstate NY we charge $60 labor plus a $45 service call charge plus the cost of the part about $125 total.

My washing machine tub seems real loose. It starts banging on the sides when starting to spin. What causes that?

Hi Steve, This is usually caused by an uneven load. For instance, If you have a bath towel in with some shirts or tea towels, the bath towel absorbes more water than the tea towels, thus making an uneven load.
My wife tends to wash slippers in a pillow case with nothing else in the washer, and the drum will bang against the side.
Hope this helps

Kind regards

Washer is rotating like it is out of balance on all loads. This never occured before unless it was truly out of balance from large heavy loads like bath towels loaded on one side of tub. I dont know what...

You could have a broken spring4addd15.gifor you could have a worn pad or it could just be that the skate plate is out of alignment with the base.a10a515.jpg872a09e.jpg

Water does not stop when in spin cycle,# 23032

Check three things. Check your Water inlet valve with a multimeter, check your timer and you water sensor. All can be found behind the knobs by removing two side screws and 4 screws in the back of the unit. If this helped please rate. Thank you
