Oil stains on whites after washing in our Kenmore Oasis

"Mystery stains" we call them. My wife puts the whites in our top load Kenmore Oasis, adds liquid detergent to the detergent dispenser and bleach to the bleach dispenser. Frequently after the wash is done the whites have grayish splotches on them. These look kind of like oil stains; kind of grayish in color and splocthed all over the shirts.. She has tried rewashing them with a heavier concetration of bleach but the stains do not come out.

Thanks for your response. However this machine is less than 8 months old and I find it heard to understand how the seals could be shot.

We've just started having problems on a 10 yr old ge Profile leaving oil stains on our laundry permanently ruining them. After looking in the tub later, I see some oil that is seeping into the bottom under the agitator. I'm pretty sure I would not have seen them right after a wash, but the leak seeps in slowly, ruining the next load of clothes. Probably a leaking oil seal. I would also like to know if I have a chance of fixing this myself, or have to get a technician. Is the cost too prohibitive to be practical?

Your machine should be under warrenty for an oil leak.
In looking at other problems on-line it appears that the GE Profile washer I have does have problems with the transmission seal. On the GE website FAQs they state that it is impossible for oil to get into the drum. They are stupid, cause I can see it coming from under the agitator myself! Others have posted similar problems. Most of the solution answers say I need to replace the transmission, which isn't simple. I"ll pjrobably have to buy a new machine rather than pay several hundred bucks to repair.

Main bearing failure probably. Have a look underneath for an oil or rusty water stain around the cabinet... If it has, it may be an expensive repair and probably not worth fixing.

How do i get the top off of a top load kenmore oasis washer to look at the water pump

#
1

Disconnect your Kenmore Oasis washing machine from its power source. Make sure that your washer is unplugged before beginning to disassemble it.
#
2

Remove the screws that hold the control console to the top of your Oasis washer. In some Kenmore Oasis models, the two screws may be covered by plastic end caps. After removing the screws, set them aside until you are ready to replace them.
#
3

Flip the console up, back and out of the way.
4

Locate the cabinet clips on the top of your Kenmore Oasis washer. These clips are located toward the back of the washer top and would be hidden by the console if it were not currently flipped up.
#
5

Slide your screwdriver underneath the metal cabinet clips. Wiggle the screwdriver back and forth to gently pry the cabinet clips free.
#
6

Disconnect the group of colored wires that plug into the top of the washer from the control console. These wires control the lid switch on your Kenmore washing machine. To disconnect, grasp the white plastic clip and pull gently.
#
7

Remove the washing machine cabinet. Tilt the cabinet towards you, and then lift the entire cabinet up and off of its platform.

I get brown streak type stains on my clothes regularly. They are about 1 to 3 inches long and orange-brown in color. They are very difficult to remove. I have a 5 year old Kenmore Elite top loading...

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some degreaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

Kenmore top loading washing machine does not clean clothes well.

I would seriously consider getting a newer machine. A brown stain could be rust, or an oil leak. Either way it probably is not worth putting any money into. If this helps, please rate my answer. Thank you.

I am getting stains on my dark clothes that look like oil stains.

Check that the dispenser is clean, it may be gunged up with black gunge, use soda crystals and put machine on hottest wash. If all is clean it could be down to seal gone in drum letting grease into system. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

DARK CLOTHES END UP WITH BLEACH DOT STAINS

Hello sa-kap,

yYu said,

Hi, I have a top loading Kenmore Elite washer (don't know model #) from the year 2002. It has the automatic bleach dispenser. The problem is that if someone has washed clothes with bleach sometime during the day and someone else comes along and washes dark clothes, the clothes get ruined with dot bleach stains. It appears that the bleach remains in the washer. Any tips or do I need to buy a new washer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
V.C.My problem is similar to that which VCasabona is having. Not just dots occur but often big splotches. It may not even be just a colored load following whites on the same day but, on occasion, it occurs on the next laundry day, a week later with the first load that is not the whites with bleach. Also, my wife adds the bleach to the filled washer (old school, I guess), rather than pouring into the dispenser. My water pressure, which is not at issue, is not what I need to address to remedy the situation. I have noted that the ledge that is part of the floating tub had some build-up of deposits, some of which may have been bleach. These I've reached in with damp cloths and removed as best I can. I've run full, empty loads through hoping this would flush out any lingering bleach. Because the occurrences run intermittently from infrequently to frequently I cannot be sure if any of my attempts to remedy the problem are having any effect. I've guessed at the model # of the Kenmore top load washer we own since Dec of 1999

Sounds like some water is remaining in the tub after the pump gets done emptying the washer.
So its the pump!
The Kenmore Elite is a good washer and I believe worth fixing!
Unless the cost is half the price of the cost of a replacement.

Bless You,
Please write me a good rating before you sign off.
