Question about Smith Corona Wordsmith 200 Typewriter

2 Answers

Smith Corona Wordsmith 250.--After changing the print ribbon and also having the daisy wheel out, the machine will not stay in time or it doesn't print the letter pressed on the keyboard. I had it in time for a short time and then it jumped or slipped so that the letters pressed on the keyboard are not what is printed on paper. I would appreciate any help in what the problem might be and any solution. Walt Kaemper

Hello

This sounds like a problem with the circuit board.it has shifted out of place,Open your typewriter and move the circuit board to align with the keys on the typewriter.

If the problem persists then you will have to replace the board

How to change a daisy wheel and line it up

remove the ribbon to see better. Their is a latch right by the print wheel. Just pull gently toward you and the printwheel holder will pop open. Then lift the wheel out and install the new wheel, Then push the latch back towards the platen or big black roller. It should line up by itself when you turn the power back on.

My typewriter is a Smith Corona Word Smith. I cannot get the daisy wheel to align

From the manual of Sr Smith Corona WordSmith 100:

Changing The Print Wheel
1) Move the print carrier to the center of the platen using the SPACE or BS
key.
2) You will see a lever on the right side of the carrier. Pull this lever toward you and
lift out the daisy wheel.
3) Place the daisy wheel into the slot with the characters facing the platen.
4) Push the lever back into position.
5) Press the CODE + = (SETTING) key.

Daisy wheel will not stay on wordsmith 100

CHANGING Changing The Ribbon Cassette 1) Move the print carrier to the center of the platen using the SPACE or BS key. 2) Hold the ribbon cassette on both sides and lift up the front portion (where the ribbon is exposed) to remove the cassette. 3) To insert a new cassette, place the back end of the cassette on the cassette holder on the carrier and gently press down on the front of the cassette unit it clicks into place. 4) Turn the ribbon feed knob counter-clockwise again to take up any slack in the ribbon. 5) Presss the CODE + = (SETTING) key.

Changing The Print Wheel 1) Move the print carrier to the center of the platen using the SPACE or BS key. 2) You will see a lever on the right side of the carrier. Pull this lever toward you and lift out the daisy wheel. 3) Place the daisy wheel into the slot with the characters facing the platen. 4) Push the lever back into position. 5) Press the CODE + = (SETTING) key.
It appears as though you have something that is preventing the print wheel from being locked in place by the release lever. It should make a snapping or similar noise when it is locked down.

Print Wheel Drive Gear is out of Position

Power up the machine, the "V" groove of the hammer should be center aligned with the "." petal If not 1 remove the ribbon bracket 2 loosen screw of the daisy wheel (element) motor it has locktite on it , slide the motor up or down in its slot until the hammer and petal are aligned. If you cannot correct it this waydue to a lack of travel it becomes a more complicated job may need a typewriter repair man.
