Question about Philips VOIP8411 IP Phone
New phone, verified latest firmware. You can hear it ringing but it goes quite when the call is answered. To verify, the call worked fine when calling from skype on the computer with a headset. I read one solution which said to unplug the batteries and restart the headset; but that didn't work. I also read somewhere (on another issue) where Philips suggested leaving batteries for 12 hours; which I'm in the process of waiting.
My network is secure (requires a password for computers to connect). I didn't see any setting to enter that password when setting up the phone. Could this be related to my problem, or does it somehow bypass my network secuity?
I have the latest firmware. Any suggestions appreciated.

Right. I've fixed it!
Here's what I did.
- You need to upgrade to the latest firmware. This is available from the Philips website. Make sure you select exactly the model of your phone. There are some instructions about how to upgrade the firmware in the manual
- Then you need to perform a reset of the system. ie: get a sharp tool and ram it into the tiny little hole on the black box which comes with the phone. If you don't do this after upgrading, it doesn' t work.
- One other tip is to check the firewall settings on your router allow the traffic in/out as well.
I called the Philips service center, and they were a bit useless, but they said if it doesn't work you could try taking the batteries out of the phone for 4 hours. Hmmmm... only try this if the above doesn't work!

I've found dialing numbers to navigate automated answering systems through Skype to be unreliable in general. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This holds true for using the numpad on the keyboard, my free-1 usb skype phone, AND now the new Philips VOIP8411B I got in the mail yesterday. I'm not surprised that the Philips doesn't work, since I've had the problem before, but still disappointed...
The only way I've been able to work around this problem is to make the call on the computer and dial numbers through the on-screen number pad (using my mouse) to get through automated systems that don't work with a handheld device. Yes, this defeats the puprose of buying and using all these cool gadgets like the Philips and the free-1, but only for these certain types of calls. And even when I use the on-screen number pad, it still doesn't work sometimes. That's when I start punching numbers frantically and hoping a real person will pick up the line... lol
@Pat56 - If you use teleconferencing so much, maybe it would be best just to do it through the computer with a USB headset instead of using the Philips VOIP8411B...? Just a thought.

Actually I had exactly the same problem. I did a simpler version of the above. I switched the base unit off/on and took battery out of phone then put back in again. As if by magic it now works again. So if in doubt - re-boot!!!

We have had this issue recently as well with both our parents and now our own.phone.
Simple solve I found here:
1. Remove batterys
2. unplug base
3. replug in base
4. Put batteries back in
Worked for us - must be a virus or something
