The older laser player/burners may have used a different angle for the read/write service. It is like a phonograph needle sitting in a groove that tracks the data as it pans the surface.
Try to COPY the CD/DVD to the desktop if you can. If you know the OLD player worked, use that to COPY the Data to your Current computer desktop and then copy that back to new CD using the new hardware.
I quite agree with you. But to be very sure, play also with Video CD and Audio CD plates respectively. These two show play properly.
Once a DVD player lens is getting weak, it would start selecting DVD plates, but would play Video CD and Audio CD well. And if the lens gets weaker, it might not play Video CD's properly.
You could use a cotton board to clean the lens of the DVD player, and see if it would improve while loading DVD plates.
Hello I was looking to try and help you with your DVD player, we will start by loading a music cd store purchased, no burned cds please, if the cd loads and plays then your dvd player is either out of adjustment or going bad, most dvd players, i have worked on, will load and play a music cd, but will show loading errors when trying DVD's. If the music cd dosen't load then there could be an issue with the drive or tray. If the music cd plays just fine, then your laser is either out of adjustment or going bad. You can call the manufacuter to see if there is a process for resetting the DVD player, not all DVD players have this option, if resetting the DVD player dosen't work, but music cd's do then your laser lens is dirty or going bad. At this point you have three options 1) Take it to a repair shop, 2) Get an new one, 3) Get your hands dirty if your really handy and know what your doing to clean and replace the laser. I hope I can be of further assitance and I look forward to helping in the future, Thank You and have a nice day.
Hi there. Are the older games you're trying to play CD games ? They might be :) The laser lens in such consoles can be fried on the dvd part, but still read CD's. Have you tried, to read a DVD Movie in it ? I bet it doesn't work either.
The slimlines are infamous for laser burnout, and god they're quick to burn. You can try to clean your laser lens with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, but i'd say you're already out of luck.
The optical lens is quite easy to replace in those units. They can be found on ebay and on various websites for 20$, and if you can play a bit with a phillips screwdriver, chances you'll be able to replace it yourself with a bit of patience are good enough.
If you need additional help just ask, hope that helps ! cheebster.
