On switching ON ,it makes a humming noise and drum stays still. If you start moving the drum by hand it turns continuously(all functions go) . Every minute or so drum stops ,hums, and have to nudge forward by hand .Motor (brushless) appears OK.Some sort of clicking noise inside . Please help diagnose fault, retired pensioner-can't afford repairs. thanks. Chris.

The belt may be off of the idler pulley or broken. That happened with our kenmore.

Duet dryer is making a humming noise when cycle starts a d during

whenever i hear a humming sound in a dryer it's usually the motor or something caught in the blower wheel stopping the motor from spinning.open the door and see if you can spin the drum.if it spins by hand try this, open the door, push in the door switch with one hand, have someone push the start button while you hold in the door switch and spin the drum by hand helping it move,if it runs you have a bad motor,if it doesn't remove the bottom panel and see if the belt is broke and stuck in the motor but like i say usually it has something to do with the motor not spinning.hope this helps

Drum not turning

That is a bad sign. If the buzzing starts when you press the start button and stops when you release its almost safe to say that the motor has a dead short or grounded out and causing that to happen. You can check the start switch by getting a multimeter and with the dryer unplugged take the wires off the switch, place a lead on each pin and press the start with meter set for continuity. If it shows continuity when presed and stops when released your motor is shot and needs to be replaced.
Now if you press the start button and the machine starts to hum and continues to hum its possible that something has gotten caught in the blower wheel and binding the motor up. Depending on the make and model the location and access to it vaaries.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Amana Dryer LEA30AW

usually the humming sound is coming from the motor, try this, open the door, turn the drum with one hand and hold the door switch in with your other hand and have someone else push the start button at the same time, this might help the motor turn on but if it does you need a new motor,if you can't turn the drum you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or something jammed in the motor like a broken belt but like i said a humming sound is usually the motor.

Dryer makes loud humming noise but drum doesn't turn when I push start.

Check to see if the drum will turn by hand. If so, leave the door open but push the light switch button down and start the unit. Once you hear the humming sound, manually turn the drum with your hand to start. If the drum turns normally, you have a bad motor and needs to be replaced. If the drum does not turn, something is jamming the motor and needs to be disassembled and inspected.
Good luck

Drum not turning, hear humming noise

the humming noise is from the motor, see if you can spin the drum by hand,if it moves you have a bad motor,if it's hard to turn you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or the belt is jammed somewhere, the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into

I have a 2 year old electric whirlpool dryer. When I push the start button, all it does is make a humming noise and won't start.

open the door and hold in the safety off switch, turn on dryer and turn drum by hand. If it tried to move..you may need to replace the belt. If it doesn't move by it's self, then you may need a new motor.

Dryer does not start. Drum does not turn by hand. Only makes a sound when switch is turned on.

If it is a sound like a loud hum, the motor is either fried or something is jammed preventing the drum from turning. It could be something like a sock. You just have to open things up and look around carefully, especially around the outside of the drum.

If the noise is a more normal one but the drum is not turning, check that the belt is around the drum and not broken. Some drums are just fairly hard to turn by hand, partcularly if the belt is still around the drum.
