Gateway E3600 Beep Codes

I have a Gateway Tower E 3600. It has 3 RAM slots. Two slots had 128 of RAM so I wanted to upgrade the RAM. I switched off the computer from the power button (did not unplug the power supply from the wall socket) and took out one of the RAM card to see its type. When I put it back and pressed the power button, it gave me 3 long beeps. There is no display on the monitor either but the processor is running as it gets hot.

Advise me pls.

3 long beeps when memory installed on gateway 700s lx3

The Code Beep Manual tells us that 3 long Beeps shows you that there is a problem with the RAM. Its either it is not installed properly, or it is faulty etc. But in your case, This has to do with the installation of those chips. I would suggest that you install only one chip at a time and check if the system will recognize it and be able to boot. If it does, put it aside, try the next one until you find out which one is causing the problem. If all the RAM chips work, then try two chips at a time, and make sure you keep on trying them only on selected slots, so that it helps you to narrow down your problem because the problem might not reside in the RAM chips but in the slots. Make sure the slots are clean, no dust particles in them, since dust particles can cause static electricity to build up around the system board causing the system to halt.

The other thing you need to consider is how you handle the RAM chips themselves. Make sure you do not touch the part that connects to the slots, because this can also create static electricity that is harmful to your computer. Again check the small lines that go into the slots on thr RAM whether they are all intact (have a goldish shiny look). At times, these lines can burn out causing a discontinuity of the current on the board.

When i power on my gateway gt5662 i am getting an erroe beep that is one long and 2 short beeps the fan kick on but nothgin else does i tried to reset my graphics card i reset cmos i bought new bigger...

Beep codes usually indicate a hardware error. Take a look at Gateway's support page (link).
Three beep codes mean that you have a problem with your RAM. It might just be that it is not sitting correctly, so try to re-seat it into the slots.
Did you upgrade your memory or changed the sticks around?

One more tip: Try not to touch any metal and/or connections on the RAM stick, you might damage it and render it useless. Bad example here, good example here.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

My gateway gt5404 says no rgb signal what do I do

With 3 beeps, you are getting a Memory base read/write error, which means your RAM is having a problem.

You can try takng the RAM simm/dimm out and re-seating them back into the slots.

If the issue continues, you will need to replace the bad RAM

When i switch on a repeating beep comes from the tower and the monitor does not come on . Hope you can help. Sean

Seems like one memory module is faulty/damaged. But BEFORE trashing the module, clean the slots and the chips and try them again. In some Compaqs the processor fan sends the dust to the memory banks producing shorts. You can learn about the beep codes here.

I tried to intall new RAM in a new Gateway DX4200-09. The computer came iwth 2 x 2 gig sticks of 667/800 dual channel 240 DIMM DDR2. I tried to add 2 more sticks of GEIL Black Dragon dual channel 800 DDR2...

From what you've described, it sounds like you've got a bad DIMM slot, since it's not recognizing RAM that you know is good (because it works in the other DIMM slots).

Since it's the DIMM slot, which is part of the motherboard, your safest bet is to let Gateway repair it under warranty.

It's a bummer to go without a computer for two weeks, but at least you won't have to pay to fix it.

My monitor does not light up but just clicks

if ur monitor is not coming up... check uplugging the monitor cable from the tower.... if u receive a msg on screen "No input signal" or "No VGA Signal" then Monitor is working fine... if not received monitor is not working properly.

if Monitor working... open the tower and remove memory (RAM) and switch on the pc... u should get beep codes.. if u dint get it.... Motherboard gone bad....else... try inserting RAM in other slot... even then its not lighting up...RAM problem or RAM solt problem..

Gateway - 3 long beeps

Beep codes are different from motherboard to motherboard as they use different bios chips.
These may help depending on the make and model of board .

Beeping tower

Hi Mrspink.

One long beep is usually a ram issue, If you are confortable opening the case, you see the ram sticks. They are retained with a white clip on both ends of the stick. Press these down, to release the ram, then firmly press the stick straight down, till the retaining tabs click back into place and lock. If the ram was removed, make sure a stick is in slot #1. The slots should be numbered, on the ends. Good Luck!!
