Hi,

Reboot and press F8 at bios screen and select "Last known working config".

It will then boot to Vista OS.

Cheers

Have you tried doing a full shutdown? You should have a choice to boot in normal mode when you start after.

Laptop goes to the launch program and normal start up but when you launch any one the screen comes on and stays blank ?

See if screen is okay when booting to cmos or to safe mode. Can be spyware causing this. Should not affect cmos screen and may not affect safe mode screen (hit F8 repeatedly when booting to bring up safe mode choices). Run Malwarebytes in safe mode.

My Toshiba 'Satellite' laptop come on and goes to a 'files check' and stays there. Have tried the 'repair option' and it stayed on over thirty hours---Thank for any help you can provide.

Hi

i would remove the hard drive check for dirt and replace it

try to boot up again

if that didn't work

The only thing i can think of is to try a system restore in safe mode

power up laptop and keep pressing the F8 tab until you get a safe mode box up
choose safe mode with networking

then wait until hopefully it starts up to the desktop

if and when everything is loaded and ok

go to

start
programs
accessories
system tools
system restore
click on system restore and choose a date to restore back to when all was well
this will work in xp but not sure if it will work in vista in safe mode

if it will work windows will ask you to click yes
then it will restart

i hope this works for you
please let us know if it does
good luck

Widows Vista does not start, Only a cursor on the screen

Try restarting safe mode. Press F8 several times at the begining when starting up and you will see an advance menu. either click on repair start up problems or try safe mode. If you can log in with no problems under safe mode, then go to start- accessories-system tools-system restore and select a date when you didnt have any problems. If that doesnt solve the problems try running an Antivirus under Safe Mode. If still NO luck, make a backup of your files and reinstall Vista. I hope this helps and dont forget to rate my answer. Thank you. :D

Window vista is not booting the computer

Try starting in safe mode. If it does boot in safe mode then go to HELP, THEN SYSTEM RESTORE, pick a date before you had these problems. Good luck. You start in safe mode by pressing F8 then selecting SAFE MODE from the menu.

You may have to use your RECOVERY disk that came with your system and re-install your operating system. I believe you can do it and still keep all your files you currently have.

Os will not load, screen stays black but mouse pointer is visable

Hi nico,I'm assumming you are running vista since this seems to be a fairly common problem.  The problem is that a driver is not loading correctly.  You should be able to restart your computer and boot into safe mode.  Once in safe mode, delete and/or uninstall any files or programs/drivers you downloaded before the problem began.  Some users have blamed Roxio and MagicDisk as programs that have caused this error.  Then restart your computer back in normal mode.If you can not boot into safe mode, then unfortunately you need to begin looking at system repair options like reinstalling windows vista.
Hope this helps, and please don't forget to vote/rate!

Safe mode

Hi there, Try tapping F8 on boot to access the boot menu select "start windows normal". if it will not let you boot in to safemode with cmd promt and run "chkdsk /f" to check for bad sectors and repair othere HD issues. Also try "Last known Configuration" as a last ditch effort before moving on to System restore. IF system restore options fail to work let me know and we can do a system restore and restore your system to an earlier time through the cmd prompt. Good luck and i hope this helps
