How Can I reset the SMC 8612XL3 switch to default factory mode?

There suppose to be a reset button on it mainly on the back of it

Not exist memory reset,only Memory Clear.Before execute Memory clear print out all SMC data list.
Enter in SP mode : press Clear(yellow key) press 107 press and keep hold more 3 seconds Stop/Clear(red) key select SP mode select SP 5801 or select using the arrows up/down SP memory clear.Press the OK and execute,when the program has ended normally,the message COMPLETED is displayed.If the program has ended abnormally an error message is displayed.Turn the main switch OFF and ON.Adjust the printer and scanner registration and magnification.Refer to the SMC lists and enter any values that differ from factory settings.Adjust the standard white level,initialize the TD sensor.It is a work from 4-5 hours,good luck.

Find the "RESET" button on the back of the device, and press and hold it for 15 seconds to reset to factory defaults.

Well, once reset you will need to login to the interface and resetup all the connection information. You can do that from the WEB interface just logon and reset. No special software (except a web browser) is needed.
I think the SMC default address is http://192.168.2.1 just log on and set it up. Resetting just restores the factory defaults, it does not erase the system.

Rarely does a router need software on a computer. Even the linksys that have a big sticker USE CD FIRST -- its only there for those who don't understand routers!

Looks to me like they never implemented the serial port. The used unit I just obtained has no signal on the serial console pins and no SMC documentation beyond plugging it in appears to exist. Likewise with TELNET access.

However you can reset the switch to factory defaults with the following procedure from a pop-up window off the login page. It worked for me.

If you have forgotten the administration password you can return the Switch to its factory default state by doing the following:

1) Remove the power cord from the back of the Switch.
2) Remove all cables from the front-panel ports.
3) Connect port 1 to port 2, on the front panel, using a standard network cable.
4) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the Switch.
5) Wait at least 40 seconds before disconnecting port 1 from port 2.

After completing this procedure, the password will be 'smcadmin' and the network address will be returned to the default; 192.168.2.10/24.

Reset it and use the factory default PW.
NOTE: You will also have to set up your WAN again.

I think that you may use one of these options

1. Use the below username and password to login to the GUI of the router as the administrator
User ID admin Password smcadmin
2. In case that this does not work, you may want to reset the router settings to factory default. To reset press and hold reset button on back panel for at least 30 seconds -- all front pannel LEDs will come on when unit is reset. Default router IP address is "192.168.2.1" or "192.168.2.1:88".

Hello sir; You have to print out SMC list before you clear all memory then to reset, the procedure as follow;
1, press "clear mode", "107".then hold down "clear/stop" key.
2 enter 5990 press enter.
3, touch on screen "execute".
after print out go backto clear memory.
4, enter 5801-1
5, follow the list to reset each item.

Try hard reset Hold the reset button for a minute and while you are holding the button, also unplug the power cable from the back every 15 seconds. So, you would unplug the power 3 times and make sure, dont release the reset button even when the power is unplugged. This works for most of the SOHO routers. cheers
