There is an error message being displayed that says "Transfer Belt Error" does this need to be replaced or is there a way i can manually fix this?

Since you didn't say which printer, I'll give the general answer.
Reseat the transfer belt. If the error persists...replace it.

I have a HP Color Laserjet 3600DN. The initial problem was no duplex printing. It wasn't pulling the paper back down. I replaced the duplex transfer belt. No luck. I then replaced the duplex reverse...

I've worked on these printers for years and I never heard of a "duplex transfer belt".
Sounds like you broke a wire or missed plugging in a connector.
Probably a bad Duplex Feed Drive assembly or bad DC Controller.

"981 Service Switch Error"

981 service switch error refers to BUD(belt up/down) clutch if the error essage is hard. it could be possible that someone could have playes with white CAM below the tranfer belt(behind the waste toner box) if you suspect that the cam was manually rotated, then you are in a big FIX. if not then it could be just a problem with the cam being worn out. in this scenario you cannot remove or reset the transfer belt as you normally do it. there is a special procedure to remove the transfer belt. try the following.

remove the waste toner box., fool the front door of the printer so that you can watch the transfer belt moving up/down. while you have the fron door open,
Turn off the printer, press and hold the go and return buttons on the printer , keep watching the shaft that show the position of the belt, once it moves, be fast enough to turn off the printer. If you were successful in this procedure , you can remove the belt from the printer without any problem. Make sure not to touch the white cam shaft. visually examine the internal mechanism of the shaft, if it is wornout replace it.

IF the white cam was turned manually then you might have to replace the BUD clutch.. which is the most difficult process in this machine....Wish you all the best.

Magicolor 2200 DL - replace transfer belt

Is this an error 16 rorate problem? It does seem weird that you still get it having replaced the transfer unit.
However the printer does have a nasty habit of not re-setting things correctly - it creates the error message by blowing a fuse on the unit and it has been known to do this even when a new unit is put in.
There are a couple of places on ebay that sell a kit that explains how to get to the fuse and they supply a new fuse. It appears to be a 1/4 amp slow blow fuse
To get at it you will need to unscrew a black plastic plate at one end of the transfer unit (it is the one that has a square hole with the main electrical contacts poking through. Loosen the 2 screws and remove. the fuse is on a small circuit board that is easily removed. replace teh fuse (needs soldering) and this might do the trick. If you have a tester might be worth removing the small circuit board (wire connector comes off easily) and checking.
This fues usually blows when the transfer unit is old and a sensor unit gets clogged up. However even when teh sensor and the band at the side of the belt has been cleaned the fuse still sometimes blows.
This might solve the problem.

Printer was off for two weeks and now error sc471

SC471 means: Belt tension unit cam error. Even though the belt tension unit tires to return to its home position several times, the home position sensor is not activated.

Possible Causes:

Defective transfer belt unit.

Defective transfer belt tension unit.

CN25 Pin 3 on the engine board is unable to send a signal.

Suggested fixes:

Replace the transfer belt unit.

Replace the engine control board.

Replace the transfer belt tension unit.

I would start by opening it up and inspecting the transfer belt and associated parts. Pull them out and re-seat them. Look for broken wires, stripped gears, gunk in the works. Clean it, then put it back together and test.

If you aren't up to it, it is probably time to call the repair man.
