Get the camera cleaned

Posted on Aug 07, 2008

Try taking the battery out for 48 hours while charging it.
then place the charged battery back in the camera.
go to the menu and reset the camera's defalt settings.
If this does not work it will certainly not hurt the camera.
And please send more info about how this happens and when.

Err on top of display on camera

Unfortunately, this probably won't be a good situation. Most of the time the ERR(or) message you're getting shows when there's an internal problem, and most likely a shutter error. Not an uncommon problem with the older consumer models like D40, D50, etc.

I get "Err" on the

The ERR message indicates a camera malfunction. In my D-90 manual it says that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter. The only way to do that is to turn the camera off and back on. Rarely, that won't work and you have to remove and reinstall the battery.

The manual also says that it this have frequently or persist to contact a Nikon authorized service center. I would contact Nikon tech support at www.Nikon.com and discuss the problem them before contacting an authorized service center.

Hi i have dropped my d50 and err comes up

There is a motor/gear assembly inside the camera that moves the lens in and out and covers the lens when it is retracted. When it dropped, you most likely cracked or shifted something out of place. A broken tooth does not stop function, but shudders when it hits the gap. A shifted gear, slips and similarly may cause this effect. If it doesn't open the shudder, you get no picture.

You will need to open it up and attempt to repair the mechanics that drive the lens.

Shutter sticks open. ERR and Clock flash.

It would help to have more information.
You should call Nikon.com repairs. Go to the website and find the support and the repairs and call the 800 number for the repair department.

Wont take picture, Top screen says ERR. It's a D50

Hi,

If it's a problem in AF and M mode it is an indication that it is probably your shutter. I have heard of similiar problems. Best bet is to call Nikon and explain your problem. Might have to send it in to be repaired or replaced.

Please rate!
Cheers

Shutter stuck half open

This sounds like the mechanism has worn. It is a straight forward service centre procedure, I wouldn't recommend trying to do anything that will make it worse. Leave it to Nikons engineers.

Err

If this only happens when using the flash - then it is a problem of flash synchronisation.

If it happens all the time - then one of the shutter curtains may be sticking.

Either way, you should get the camera looked at by a repairer.

Nikon D70 Err

Sounds like the shutter is sticking. This could be due to damage or just need cleaning. This probably means that you need to get the camera professionally serviced/fixed as shutters are extremely delicate.
