Visit Memory.com and type in the model # of your computer (ex: Dell Inspiron 870) for exact parts you can use. I've used the site for years and am happy with their service.
Actual replacement is easy and takes about 5 minutes (instructions available at same site above, or a million places on the Net).
Yes this pc3200 is hardly compatible, because your motherboard is supportable of DDR 1 type RAM, Hence th PC3200 = 400 MHz, so you can add this ram to your PC, such that the ram which is between 266mhz to 400 MHz is absolutely a DDR1 type . please dont forget to vote for me.
restart the computer. before it starts windows on the bottom left of the screen it will say press f1 or f2 to setup. press it. go into the boot configuration and set your first boot device to cdrom. then press f10 to save. insert the xp disc and restart the computer. when it restarts it should say press any key to boot from cd. just press any key and it will start on its own.
restore your system... go to accessories... sytem tools and click restore system.... choose the date that your computer is working normally and then restore.
