Question about System Power Supplies

Turns on, then shuts down before anything shows on monitor

The computer shuts down almost as soon as it starts up. Then it will not start up again until I unplug it and start over. Each time, it will just shut down again. I took the side panel off and watched the LEDs on the Mother board. A green light stays on near the CPU. When I turn it on, a red light flashes for an instant at the bottom of the board, near the board slots. I tried a different power supply with no change. I tried unplugging all the power cables to the drives with no change. I unplugged and reseated the memory chip and the CPU with no change. I don't have another CPU or memory chip of the correct type to try in it. Any suggestions? The computer shuts down almost as soon as it starts up. When is the Hipro HP-A2007AE power supply cooling fan to be on?

The fan should run constantly. It needs to be replaced. Otherwise the power supply will shut down when it gets hot. It can usually be replaced, but if the supply is cheap, just go out and get a new one.

My monitor turns itself on and off with no prompting

Go into the control panel and check the system settings. You might have it set to turn the monitor off after a low number of seconds of use. If you have it set for 30 seconds, if you don't use the keyboard or mouse for 30 seconds, the monitor will shut off. When you start to use it again, it will come back on.

System is not workin properly

You might try this. Shut down the computer, disconnect power cords, disconnect everything at the back of the computer, mouse, key board, etc. Open the case, ground yourself by touching an unpainted area of the case and remove the power connectors to ALL optic drives and floppy drive if you have one. (Of course do not disconnect the hdd.)
Reconnect mouse, keyboard, etc., and power cords to wall outlet.
See if it will post now. If it does I say you have a faulty power supply.
I was given a computer which was doa. It would not post, after I tried the above routine it posted then booted to windows.
I replaced the psu and now the computer works fine.
Hope this helps!

Acer aspire computer with liteon power supply PY300B00153201AA6E

power supplies are easy to replace. usually 4 screws. open the pc. remove the screws and unplug it from the motherboard. a replacement costs 40-60 dollars. plug it into the same place(s) you unplugged the original pwr supply. replace the screws. replace the cover and thats it.

Orange light on instead of green light..also 3 and 4 number light up

When I first started repairing things a mentor said always unplug anything you are working on. I found this to be a number one rule. You just don't know what still has power even though it says it's off. I've made this mistake too by not checking.
Okay. So...
Hopefully the power supply is just shutting down due to a drain on it's voltage and will be okay. Take out whatever you tried to install. Try it again. Take out anything not necessary to boot your computer. You'll need the video card if not integrated. If you have a bootable floppy, Unplug the hard drive. See if you get to a screen where you can go into the bios setup mode. You also might want to write down where things go back. This is especially if doing this with little sleep. Let me know..'ask me.'

How long are the beeps? If they are shortish then it suggests that the ram on your motherboard isnt working properly. Try removing it and reseating it. Make sure all the power is turned off before doing this.

Also there is a jumper located near the bios battery for resetting the bios. Move that to the clear position then back again after a minuter or so. That will put it back to default setting.

How did the problem start? Had you been adjusting anything in the bios at all?

You need a new power switch. I am currently working on a S4020WM with the same problem. I cut one wire to the power switch, then used a paper clip to make a jumper to start the machine. It has run fine since then. The only trouble I am having is finding a replacement switch.
