Question about Mitsubishi VS-50705 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Other parts By looking at the board, that entire corner of the board has that stuff on it, but only on the top. It did not get to bottom side. I was going to try and clean it, I have some cleaner in a spray can thats made for circuit boards, what do you think?

The cleaner will work. but the liquid if its CRT coolant, and in that model I would bet that it is. Coolant is corrosive so i would at least heat the solder on those components just to evaporate any coolant that has seeped dow the components legs as it can and will eat at the pin/solder connections.

pretty simple repair if you know how to solder.

Set uses (most likely) two of the STK392-110 convergence chips; both and any resistors around them bad need to be replaced.

Parts cost on EBAY under 20 dollars for the chips.

There are two versions of this set; with back off look to right side---4 inch wide board? If this version you remove the board, other version entire chassis has to be lifted up so bottom faces rear of set.

I will attach a photo of the chips in another set so you know what they look like, If you know how to solder it is a hour job.

Which version do you have? removable board on the right side as seen from back or not?

Flat Screen LCD TV has picture on top half, black on bottom.

You turn on your beautiful LCD flat screen and when it boots up it has a picture on the top but nothing but black on the bottom. What is wrong?

Since the top half of the picture is working we know that the circuits which drive the signal and display are OK. They are the same for the top and bottom.

The difference is there are two YSUS drivers for the unit. One on the top and one on the bottom. They are referred to as the Upper and Lower YSUS drivers. They provide the signal to the display. You have lost the one on the bottom.

Unplug the unit and lay it on a flat padded surface. Remove the rear cover by taking out all the screws around the perimeter. Some screws in the center of the back may have to be removed. They should be obvious.

Once the back is off look on the left side of the unit. There should be separate boards (split top and bottom) which are the YSUS drivers, top and bottom. The boards are only about 1 to 1 and 1/2 inches wide and occupy 1/2 of the space from top to bottom.

You may have to remove the YSUS board, and maybe even a support beam to get the driver board out because the Upper and Lower YSUS boards are usually located under the main YSUS sustain board.

If you go to http://www.encompass.com and input the model number all the parts will be listed. There may also be a service manual available for downloading and you can scroll through the parts to find the Upper YSUS board. In addition the board should have the part number on it.

For Panasonic it generally begins with TNP-XXXXX. Your other option would be to look for the part called "YSUS lower driver" . Order this part and install it and you should have a working set.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6981868-replace_circuit_board_in_modern_tvs which explains the proper procedure to remove and replace a modern electronic circuit board.

Our kp 41t65 sony trinitron projection tv had a hot smell and wasn't working. i pulled the back panel off and the only thing i saw was a fresh "wet" looking spot on the side of what i am going...

You got it Jimbo! The wet stuff is Ethylene Glycol ( coolant ) leaking from one of the tubes. I doubt if the Transformer is still available and besides, if the fluid got on the board the entire board should be taken out and washed down with acetone. I wouldn't put the money into it. Treat yourself to an early Christmas present.

I have an RCA HD52W59 HDTV and my kids were watching the other day and all of a sudden the screen went bad. The sound is ok and you can still see the picture however it looks like your watching in 3D...

This is normally an easy fix. I've fixed several of these. When you get the back off of the set, there are 3 small square brown fuses located at the back left corner of the set, if looking at it from the back. They are located next to the right side of the flyback transformer( the large gray or black thing sticking up with the thick red wire coming out of the top). One of those fuses will be open and needs to be replaced, and the pins on the flyback transformer need to be resoldered on the bottom of the board. They will come loose and make the fuse blow. This will fix the problem 95% of the time on this set.

The other stuff is probably the Engine as well. Before going any further, have them replace it again and see if the other problems show up. I am willing to bet they wont. These Engines are mostly refurbished units and if they originally had intermittent problems on the Digital Board that comes mounted on the Engine it would get passed on to you.
I would not wait before having it replaced and I would Call LG first to let them know you got a dud replacement Engine. Let me know how it comes out.

Who does in home TV repair have an RCA D61W20 or can it be done m

The most obvious item which is causing your problem are the 220K ohm 1/4 watt resistors on the convergence power supply board. There are four of them RP10, RP11, RP12 amd RP13

Mitsubishi WS55513 ---Flashing Green LEDs...and now NO POWER.. Hi...got the entire board / chassis out of the TV shell. Going to start checking individual components, starting with the mail power supply...

start by pulling the DM board (looking from the back it is standing upright on the left side in a metal chassis) and you'll probably find 4 bad capacitors (bulging on the tops is a good indication, If i remember correctly they are near the top right corner)
you can buy replacements here..
