Question about Iomega 1TB Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

My new Iomega 1 TB Select Desktop HD has a low level noise, when it is working, that sounds like an old manual typewriter. At other times it sounds like a muffled snare drum. Need I be concerned? Thanks, Don

Like a needle on a record-player, moving over the tracks of a vinyl record,
the disk-drive has a moving read/write head.

Try defragmenting the disk-drive -- this tends to reduce the average distance that the head moves, and decreases the noise-level.

Hello, my Iomega 34579 1 TB USB 20 Hard Drive was working ok in my MAC but I've plugged it into my pc and it does'nt work, what do I have to do?

You probably formatted it as HFS+ to work with your Mac. Windows cannot do anything with that format. If you are wanting to use the drive with both Windows and Mac, you are going to have to format the drive as FAT32. There is a 4GB per file size limitation with FAT32. Otherwise there isn't anything that you can do.
To format your drive as FAT32 with a Mac OS X, Version 10.4 and above:
1. Make sure you have copied any needed files to another location. 2. Select Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
In the left hand column, click on the drive icon for the Iomega drive or disk.
Make sure you click on the high level orange drive icon, not the second level volume icon.
3. Select the Partition tab. 4. Change Volume Scheme from Current to 1 Partition. 5. Click on the Options button. 6. Select Master Boot Record as the partition type. 7. Click the Format drop-down menu and select MS-DOS File System as the format type. 8. Click OK. 9. Click the Partition button

When I turn it on, it has power, but keeps making a clicking noise and it doesn't appear in My Computer.

I would contact your dealer and have them look at it. It sounds as though the HD inside may be faulty.

My Iomega 1 TB desktop usb 2.0 hard drive stopped working. it makes a ticking sound and turns off on it's own.

This means that your hard drive has died so will need to be replaced. This is what you need to do:
1. Buy a new hard drive
2. Open up the casing of your old device
3. Remove the old hard drive
4. Place the new hard drive in the bay
5. Re-assemble the casing and plug in

Can't format new Iomega 1 TB drive on a mac

the mbr has been lost and may be the boot files too. this happens if sector zero is bad or weak
use a windows pc .and remove the raw drive from the casing of this external drive. now hook it into the windows pc and see for the drive detection in bios. if detected the drive is ok and needs a good low level formatting. with a llf tool you can get one free from hddguru.com
