Dynamic DHCP Client List

Hello!

I have a DI-624 modem and I would like to know how to clean the below table where is shown the computer's name, mac address, ip and etc. I have like, 30+ there because I was testing to prevent mac address spoofing on my wireless network. How can I clean that list?

By rebooting the modem and doing a soft reset (press the reset button on the back, but don't hold it down) will clear the DHCP client list. Alternatively, you can wait until the DHCP timeout happens, which is usually after about 24 hours after the DHCP lease was given out.

I think the last poster was telling you to disable DHCP, then re-enable it. But I'm not sure that's a good solution. Just try the soft reset, or try turning the DHCP lease time to a lower time limit like 1 hour.

My router can not access dhcp.Why?

I have a dlink router of model DI-1750, i have to configure DHCP..can anyone help me regarding the configuration commands.

Can connect to router, but router wont connect to internet


The router needs to be configured manually. Follow the steps below.

Basic DSL Setup - PPPoE

Most Internet Service Providers offer PPPoE authentication. Please consult your ISP if you are not sure if PPPoE could be used.

To configure your router for PPPoE you will need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to 'PPPoE' option. However majority of Modems nowadays already have PPPoE enabled. If your modem has PPPoE client built-in, you need to select the 'DHCP' option in your router. The router is set to this option by default.

Configuration steps:

Step 1

Connect the broadband modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port.
Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.

Step 2

Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.0.1 ). Note that you do not have to be on the Internet in order to access this address because you are just connecting to your router's address. Specify username and password for your router, the default is `admin' (optional) and password is blank (nothing).

Step 3

After logging into the router select Setup. Set Internet Connection to 'PPPoE' option.
This can be done by either clicking on Internet Connection Setup Wizard or if you want to set it up manually, then click on 'Manual Internet Connection Setup'. Note that it is very common for broadband modems to carry out the PPPoE authentication for you. In this case you need to select the 'Dynamic IP' option (DHCP) in your router, do not select PPPoE. If you have such modem proceed to Step 5

Step 4

If your broadband modem does not have PPPoE function, select the 'PPPoE' option in the router and enter your account details (username and password given by your ISP). Note that some ISP's require username to be as your full e-mail address (ex: username@ispname.com).

Step 5

Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then on REBOOT THE DEVICE to apply the new configuration. Recycle power to modem.

You do not have to run any login client (like PPPoE) on your computer in order to connect to the Internet. If you had it setup when using the modem without the router, disable it in Internet Explorer under Tools > Internet Options > Connections > set to 'Never dial a connection'.

If you did not have to run PPPoE login client on your computer when modem was directly connected to your PC, your ADSL modem has PPPoE built-in. In this case set the router's WAN (INTERNET) port should be set to the 'Dynamic IP' option.

If your ISP requires PPPoA connection you need to make sure that your ADSL modem supports PPPoA (PPPoA can not be used on Routers which do not have ADSL Modem built-in). If your modem will be carrying out PPPoA connection you need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to the 'DHCP' option.


If you are having difficulties accessing the Internet:

- Turn the modem and the router off for a minute and then turn the modem first and then the router.

- Log into the router and go to Status page. Note what IP address it is getting on the WAN (INTERNET) interface. If the IP address you see under WAN (INTERNET) appears to be in the same range you are using on your network (e.g. 192.168.0.x), you will need to change the range you are using on your LAN to something different, e.g. 192.168.88.x. You can do this on your router under Setup > LAN Setup. Note that after changing the IP of your router you will only be able to access it through its new IP, e.g. 192.168.88.1.

- Select the MAC Cloning option. Click on Clone MAC Address button. Do this from the computer which the broadband modem was directly connected to the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the router. Save settings and reboot the router. Reboot your broadband modem as well.

- Uninstall your antivirus software (sometimes disabling or closing the software is not enough) and reboot your PC.







Configuring router for Cable Internet

To configure your router for Cable you will need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to 'Dynamic IP' (DHCP) option. The router is set to this option by default.

Configuration steps:

Step 1 Connect the cable modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port.
Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.

Step 2 Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.0.1 ). Create a secure wireless network


I assume you have some knowledge to configure this router.
Go to the management page, select the Wireless option.
choose a SSID name, hide it by selecting "Don't broadcast SSID"
Set a strong WPA password.
on the clients PC, type ipconfig /all
save the MAC addresses of the clients PCs, and enable MAC filtering on the router, define those MAC has allowed and everything else as denied.
save and reboot
configure each client PC manually (the SSID is hidden!)
also, you can disable DHCP on the router, and configure manually each client.
With all these combined, should be harder to get hacked into :)

Need to add a computer to the DHCP client list of Belkin router


You can't add a computer to DHCP Client table manually, because DHCP client table is automatic. If you wanna know the MAC address of your computer, go to Start > Run > type CMD and press enter. On the command prompt type in IPCONFIG/ALL and look for Physical Address. That is also the MAC Address of your computer.

Please remember that D-Link AirPlus G wireless devices are pre-configured to connect together, right out of the box, with their default settings.For a typical wireless setup at home (as shown above), please do the following:
1) You will need broadband Internet access (a Cable or DSL-subscriber line into
your home or office)
2) Consult with your Cable or DSL provider for proper installation of the modem
3) Connect the Cable or DSL modem to the DI-524 Wireless Broadband Router
(see the printed Quick Installation Guide included with your router.)
4) If you are connecting a desktop computer to your network, install the D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 wireless PCI adapter into an available PCI slot on your desktop computer. You may also install the DWL-G520, or the DWL-520. (See the printed Quick Installation Guide included with the network adapter.)
5) Install the D-Link DWL-G630 wireless Cardbus adapter into a laptop computer.
(See the printed Quick Installation Guide included with the DWL-G630.)
6) Install the D-Link DFE-530TX+ adapter into a desktop computer. The four Ethernet LAN ports of the DI-524 are Auto MDI/MDIX and will work with both Straight-Through and Cross-Over cable. (See the printed Quick Installation Guide included with the DFE-530TX+.)

Using the Configuration Menu

Whenever you want to configure your network or the
DI-524, you can access the Configuration Menu by
opening the web-browser and typing in the IP Address
of the DI-524. The DI-524 default IP Address is shown

Choose PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) if your ISP uses a PPPoE connection. Your ISP will provide you with a username and password. This option is typically used for DSL services. Select Dynamic PPPoE to obtain an IP address automatically for your PPPoE connection. Select Static PPPoE to use a static IP address for your PPPoeE connection.

PPPoE- Choose this option if your ISP uses PPPoE. (Most DSL users will select this option.)

Dynamic PPPoE- receive an IP Address automatically from your ISP.

Static PPPoE-you have an assigned (static) IP Address.

User Name- Your PPPoE username provided by your ISP.

Retype Password- Re-enter the PPPoE password

IP Address- This option is only available for Static PPPoE. Enter the static IP Address for the PPPoE connection.

Primary DNS Address- Primary DNS IP address provided by our ISP

Secondary DNS Address- This option is only available for Static PPPoE. Enter the static IP Address for the PPPoE connection.

Maximum Idle Time- Enter a maximum idle time during which Internet connection is maintained during inactivity. To diable this feature, enable Autoreconnect.

MTU- Maximum Transmission Unit-1492 is the default setting-you may need to change the MTU for optimal performance with your specific ISP.

Auto-reconnect- If enabled, the DI-524 will automatically connect to your ISP after your system is restarted or if the PPPoE connection is dropped.

LAN is short for Local Area Network. This is considered your internal network. These are the IP settings of the LAN interface for the DI-524. These settings may be referred to as Private settings. You may change the LAN IP address if needed. The LAN IP address is private to your internal network and cannot be seen on the Internet.

IP Address- The IP address of the LAN interface. The default IP address is: 192.168.0.1.

Subnet Mask- The subnet mask of the LAN interface. The default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

Local Domain- This field is optional. Enter in the local domain name.

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Control Protocol. The DI-524 has a built-in DHCP server.
The DHCP Server will automatically assign an IP address to the computers on the LAN/
private network. Be sure to set your computers to be DHCP clients by setting their TCP/
IP settings to “Obtain an IP Address Automatically.” When you turn your computers on,
they will automatically load the proper TCP/IP settings provided by the DI-524. The
DHCP Server will automatically allocate an unused IP address from the IP address pool
to the requesting computer. You must specify the starting and ending address of the IP
address pool.

DHCP Server- Select Enabled or Disabled. The default setting is Enabled.
Starting
IP Address- The starting IP address for the DHCP server’s IP assignment
Ending
IP Address- The ending IP address for the DHCP server’s IP assignment
Lease Time- The length of time for the IP lease. Enter the Lease time. The
default setting is one hour

DI-524 wireless problem on Mac


Hi Boris, Under the advanced menu select filter and you'll see options for MAC filters and IP filters. MAC addresses are not added to the list automatically.
speaking of IP filters, are you using static or dynamic IP addressing, in other words do you have DHCP turned on? As a rule of thumb using DHCP to assign IP addresses is both simpler and slightly more secure, you can find your DHCP server options under the home tab.
Lastly, on your Mac select System Preferences from either the Dock, the Apple menu or your applications folder and select Security and then Firewall to check that your firewall is on but that you have not accidentally disabled/blocked absolutely everything, also in System Preferences check in Network to see what interfaces are being used and have an IP address, as mentioned connecting to the network wirelessly whilst you also have it connected via a network cable is not (for all practical purposes) going to work.

Static DHCP


Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Step 2 Click on the Home tab and then click DHCP on the left column. Step 3 Under the Static DHCP section next to DHCP Client, select one of the DHCP clients from the list and click Clone. Step 4 Select Enabled and enter the IP address you would like this client to always obtain. Step 5 Verify that the Name and MAC Address fields have the correct Hostname and MAC address for the client and click Apply. If the Hostname or MAC address is not correct, Release and Renew the IP address on the client and then refresh the DHCP page.
