Is this an actual problem?  If you open it up at home, you'll contaminate it and head crashes and overheating will occur...

How to unlock it

Hi

The HDD is locked when its in use usually. The LOCK command blocks direct access by programs that can corrupt file names and/or destroy disk data, resulting in the loss of files on your disk, Windows has one that is perfectly adequate and suited for it.

-Go to Start>Run>type: chkdsk /r and hit enter.
-You will be prompted and choose Y and reboot.
-It will run on restart and do all the necessary checks/repairs needed tp your HDD.

On a side note, in Command Prompt this is how to lock unlock a drive.

LOCK [drive:]

Hit enter and choose Y. Its locked now. For instance drive C: would be:

LOCK C:

For unlocking

UNLOCK [drive:]

The same as before, you would type unlock followed by drive location.

hope this helps

My friend got me a lenovo notebook s10-2.but as I press the start butten it shows primary master lock ST9160314AS

The previous owner of the Lenovo put a "password" onto the disk-drive, to "lock-out" all other persons, including a THIEF. Ask your friend for the password.

Or, remove the disk-drive, and buy a replacement disk-drive, and re-install Windows.

Optical Drive Device Locked Acer e lock activated. I cannot use my Cd drive.

Acer eLock Management
Acer eLock Management is a security utility that allows you to lock your removable data, optical and floppy
drives to ensure that data cannot be stolen while your notebook is unattended.

Removable data devices - includes USB disk drives, USB pen drives, USB flash drives, USB MP3 drives,
USB memory card readers, IEEE 1394 disk drives and any other removable disk drives that can be
mounted as a file system when plugged into the system.

Optical drive devices - includes any kind of CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives.
Floppy disk drives - 3.5-inch disks only.
Interfaces - includes serial ports, parallel port, infrared (IR), and Bluetooth.
To activate Acer eLock Management, a password must be set first. Once set, you can apply locks to any of the
devices. Lock(s) will immediately be set without any reboot necessary, and will remain locked after rebooting,
until unlocked.

You can try this:

You can reset the system to its default settings (all devices unlocked) by removing the password (leave the password fields blank when changing the password).

You also may be able to simply uninstall the e-lock software in add remove programs.

Is there an icon in your system tray that may allow you to disable e-lock?

The hard disk in drive D: is not accessible

Well this message can be two things(if not more) One of them being that the disk has security set and you wil need to change those settings if you want access to the drive the other scenario being that a program has locked the disk for exclusive access. Assuming you are using Windows XP. To check the security go to the properties of the disk then click on security(Tf the security tab isn't there, Open my computer then click Tools->Folder Options then the View Tab. Scroll to the bottom/last option then uncheck Use Simple File-Sharing press OK/Apply) Now back to Properties of the disk then Click the security tab. You'll need to try this first and tell me what's there, or if u got any error message etc. My explanation might be to long if i try to explain every possibility. regards, babb
