Sorry I am using quickPOS which is the Point of Sale software from quickbooks. So the scanner should be able to connect to quickPOS for scanning purposes in our Grocery retail outlet, which is what we need it for - we need it for the counter/till.

    Please help.

If when you scan something you hear the beep then the unit is correctly installed and functioning properly.
BUT , and you might not like that, QuickBooks does NOT offer bar-code scanning as a feature/function. You can buy an add-on package from several Intuit approved vendors who can take your Item list and tie bar codes to each item. Depending on the complexity and features of that vendors program (and accordingly the price) you may or may not be able to adjust inventory quantities in QuickBooks. Many of them are simply set up to scan items for sales not receiving or inventory adjustment. Check out the Intuit Marketplace for vendors offering these programs compatible with your specific version of QB.

In that case you must find out if the scanner is recognized by Windows: make sure it's plugged in, open NotePad, and scan a random barcode. If you get a string of numbers/letters, it's operational. But the only ones that are certified to work are only the ones from the Intuit list - yours isn't in it.

The only thing that would make it work is a new reconfigured driver. Unfortunately only them can issue one but they have labeled your unit as obsolete and abandoned the support for it so there's nothing you can do to make it work.

You will have to buy a new barcode scanner.

Problems with M2004 Barcode Scanner

If your M2004 is connected with an RS-232 cable such as the CBA-R01-S07ZAR or the 25-32465-20R the scanner defaults to sending data at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, software or hardware handshaking. Is it possible the software needs to see a carriage return after the data? If so, Scan Options, Data Suffix, Enter from Adobe page 135 and 136 of 310 of the M2000 Series Product Reference Guide will make the scanner send a carriage return line feed (7013). If your program needs just a CR then scan the Scan Suffix barcode from page 134 of 310 followed by a 1, a 0, a 1 and a 3 from page 175 of 310.

If this does not help or if you are connected any other way and the CRLF does not help it may be a good idea to contact the Motorola support center for assistance. Their phone number is 800-653-5350.

The red light on the scanner seems to be on most of the time

If you are using magellan 1000i with no button, then it must be your scanner broken. But If you use a button trigger try to push it a while. The Button is on top of the scanner, with a white / light green color.
