When you start your car turn your head lights on and see if they are really dim or your dash lights. Do it at night for better accuracy. If they seem very dim then it's you alternator.
If there is not a dipstick at the top of the compartment it has to be checked at the transmission itself. Sometimes there is a dipstick on the tranny itself and for all others there is two bolts. One on the bottom for drainging and the other on the side for filling and checking.

pull the machine out and tilt it back, water may pour out from under the machine, if it does, it indicates that the anti-flood device has actuated, thats why the machine is continuing to drain constantly. leak some where underneath is the problem.
