Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Our Craftsman Model 139.53684 Keyless Entry garage door suddenly quit working. We bought it in 2001. It was working fine and then neither remote or the keypad worked. We manually opened the door and reset the remotes and keypad per the instructions. They all worked fine, so we thought it was fixed. Went out the next day, nothing. Manually opened the door again, tried to reset the keypad and remotes, but all it does is blink. The only way I could close the door was by pushing the button on the inside of the garage. Any idea what's suddenly happened and how to fix it?

SOURCE: My Craftsman 53684 keyless won't work with my Craftsman 53930DM.

I've never seen the first set of steps you mention. You always need to press the "learn" button first so the opener will be in the mode to capture the new code. As far as I know it is not necessary to hold the Enter button on the keypad (at least I never have). While the "learn" LED is lit on the opener, just key in the new code and press Enter.

Maybe you should try clearing the receiver first by pressing the "learn" button and holding it until the LED either goes out or starts flashing (depends on model). Then try reprogramming. Maybe the little computer is confused.

To answer your question the opener is in vacation mode. Press and hold for 3 seconds the button on your wall control with the lock icon. The green light will stop flashing and you will be back in business.

SOURCE: My Sears Craftsman Model 139 53684 Keyless remote

Make sure that when inserting the 9 volt battery that those red & black wires are not somehow pinched, twisted or stretched. I just fixed mine... The battery terminal was crushing one of the wires and preventing the battery to supply power to the keypad. I found it out by NOT securing the battery case door and my opener worked fine. Securing the battery case door with the screw and thightening, my opener DID NOT WORK. It was that simploe of a FIX!

SOURCE: Keypad won't work anymore

Lets make sure you are programming it correctly, make sure the battery is new. Press and release the learn button on the motor. Within 30 seconds enter in the 4 digit code followed by the up/down button. The light bulb should flash once. If you can't get it to code in this way you will need to replace the keypad. Thanks BB

I have a Craftsman 139.48847 1/2 Hp garage door opener. I can get either the remotes to or the keyless entry pad to work but not at the same time, Any suggestions?

If you have more than one remote and they all work but when you try to program the keypad it causes the remotes to quit working then your keypad is bad.

That keypad should work with your opener. I suspect the keypad is bad if you have other remotes that work. If not it could be the logic board.

If the battery is okay and your other remotes still work then the keypad has just quit.

Craftsman Model 139.53684 Keyless entry doesn't work

The remotes and keypad use the receiver which is part of the logic board.'t The button on the wall is hardwired and doesn't use the receiver. You might pull the logic board and check for bad connections on the printed circuit.

Trouble with programing garage remotes and keyless entry pad

Either the keypad is the wrong model for your opener or it has reverted to an earlier technology and needs to be replaced. It is important that you get the model number off your motor unit so you can be sure you get the right keypad for your opener.

Only Keyless entry or remotes can be programmed but not both

If you can program your remotes but when you program your keypad the remotes quit working and vice versa you have either the wrong keypad or it has reverted to an earlier technology. Make sure the keypad is for your specific model door opener.

Two remotes

One of your units has reverted to an earlier technology or if you just bought the keypad you got the wrong one for your opener.
