Hi. I am having problems installing Sage Instant Accounts.Just before the the installation process is completed, a pop up window appears with the following message: Component Error Returned the Following Data Transfer Error. Media Name: DATA Error Number: -1603. After this, the installation continues and finishes "succesfully". When you try to run the software, the welcome screen flashes for 5 seconds and then nothing happens. I have tried the Sage helpline (at great expense) and they were totally useless and not interested in my problem (despite having bought their software!!). They blamed it on Windows but would not help. I have tried changing registry settings, Windows installer, updated NET... don't know what else I can do...

I installed Sage Payment Gateway over a Magento website last year and got to come the same kind of problem for shipping in UK. I think you need to upgrade your Sage software to PRO if its free one as their free versions are not sufficient enough to get the work done.

This is usually caused by the user not having full rights to the Data directory. right click on the data director select security and you can a click on users network logon and tick on full control

We had same problem. Our solution:

1. Empty both the 'accdata' and the 'criteria' folders.
2. Start Sage.
3. Restore a previous backup.

We got round this by installing each program on a separate partition. Use the 'Custom Install' option when you install the second program. You only need to change the first letter from 'C' to whatever the new drive letter is. Leave the rest the same.

To download the Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility (Build 111)
Access the Updates page on the Sage website: http://www.sage.co.uk/support > Downloads > Updates.
Note: You must log in to view this page. To do this, click Log in, enter your email address and password for the Sage website, then click Log in.
From the drop-down list, choose Line 50 & Sage 50 Accounts then click Go.
Locate the Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility (Build 111) then click Download.
From the File Download window, make a note of the file name, for example, sbddesktopbuild111.exe, then click Save.
From the Save As window, browse to the required destination, for example, your Windows desktop, then click Save.
The Download window appears showing the progress of the download and the estimated time to complete.
Once the download is complete, if required, click Close.
You have now successfully downloaded the Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility (Build 111). For instructions on how to install this, click the Install it tab.

Sage 50 has a file called company. that holds the path to the sage Data. From version 2007 onwards this is held in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sage\accounts\2010(or whatever version you have)

Was getting the same error for version 12. On the cd there is a support folder. In that there is an installs folder. I installed jet, mdac and the xml parser (probably not necessary) and the next install worked OK.

if you right click on your sage icon and then left click on properties this will show you where sage is installed. if you then click find target this will bring you into directory that containc the accdata directory

Make sure there is no other user that has the program open (if it is on a network). Shutdown the computer and restart the program. Make sure you have all the Windows updates installed.

Does that computer have Vista or XP on it? I would completely uninstall Sage, make sure all the current Microsoft updates are installed on your computer (yes, even when they are new, there may be updates) and then try reinstalling the Sage.
