Question about Humminbird 947C GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Transducer not connected

947c was working fine and now it's not working at all and it states that the "transducer is not connected". Ran a diagnostic on the 947c and it states that everything is working fine. Bought a new Transducer and it still says that the "transducer not connected". Checked all wires and connections and they all seem fine. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem and also bought a new transducer as I thought barnacles had fouled mine. Still same problem. I called Humminbird and as I was within 1 year warranty they did free repair in April 2008 (replaced a circuit board). The same problem reoccurred in June and again sent in to Humminbird. They did a free repair. The same issue "transducer not connected" occurred again July 20th. I called Humminbird and asked them to replace the entire unit. They said they could not as I had passed my original one year warranty period. They were also relunctant to do a free repair again for the same reason. I pointed out that the June repair invoice stated that the repair was guaranteed for 90 days. They reluctantly agreed to repair for free again. Let's see what happens. I fish every weekend and need GPS and Sonar for offshore wrecks so the repair downtime really puts a crimp in my fishing.

I have a 947c just over one year old. I purchased the extended warranty from West marine. They have offered to gt me a new transducer or switch it out for a new unit. However, I have to pay the difference between the new unit and the old unit. It sounds like I need to swap it out.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem. My 947c was working great and on the next start up started reading "transducer not connected" I have torn the boat apart. Cannot find anything wrong. Now it looks like it costs $480.00 dollors to have someone look into it at Hummingbird. Looks like they are sick of working on them! Let me know if anyone has found a solution that works.

Why does my transducer not get a return when its deeper than 150 mts?how much amps does it need to operate in deep water?

Normally a new clean faced 1 KW thru-hull transducer works to 3,000 feet ( 914 meters).
Maybe the impedance of the transducer and electronics driving it do not match.
Connecting cable too long?
Poor connections. Look at plug pins to see if any are bent.

Transducer Error

You either have a fault in the head unit, connection to the transducer, broken wire in the transducer cable, or a faulty transducer.

I want to see the schematic diagram of humminbird fish finder transducer, my fishfinder won't operate. if i plug another unit of transducer, the my fishfinder operates normally.

Hi Greg and Ernesto:
Re-stating the obvious, your transducer is not working but you know that the sounder is.
I would start by checking to see if your transducer works on a different sounder. That's just a double check to confirm that it really is not working.
Then I'd try to isolate the problem:
- Plug (couold be corroded or damaged)
- wire (could be broken)
- Transducer (could be defective)
Since these are sealed units, I'd be checking with the supplier to try to find a replacement. Hopefully they are not too expensive, and time spent fishing is better than trying to maybe save a few dollars, especially if you're taking out charters.
Best of luck.

MY RAYMARINE A65 CHART PLOTTER/ FISHFINDER HAS NOT BEEN WORKING , THE CHARTPLOTTER WORKS FINE , BUT THE FISH FINDER WONT PULL UP BOTTOM OR ANYTHING . I LOOKED AT THE LITTLE BOX THAT CONNECTS TO THE...

Likely your DSM25 (that little box that connects the transducer to the display) will need to be rebuilt. The red LED is saying that there is an internal fault with the unit. You would need to send the unit in for repair through Raymarine (as there really is not anyone else who can do it), and they would have to replace the main circuit card in the box. I believe that they are charging either $150 or $175 to repair those now... but likely the only way you will get that one to work again.

Transducer loses bottom at any type of speed greater than trolling. Worked fine last year with all the same setttings. All I can think of is , maybe the battery is low. The boat just came out of storage...

Check the transducer for any damage on the front part. Also make sure there isn't any damage on the bottom of the boat that is causing air bubbles to cross the face of the transducer. If it works at slow speeds there is definitely something causing air bubbles.

My Lowrance X-51 is not reading the depth sitting still of running . Do I need a new transducer ?

Yes quite possibly... But a few things to try/check first before you go out and get a new transducer...

1. Ensure the transducer is fully submersed below the waterline when floating and when on the plane... try lowering it more if you can.
2. Check the surface of the transducer itself (the underside) pointing down... If there are any minor scratches or scuffs, this can effect its function or performance. Minor scratches or marks can be sanded out with fine wet/dry sandpaper (at least 400 or 800 grit).
3. Isolate any electrical wires running near or next to the transducer cable. Also check connection of cable at head unit, and that the pins etc are clean, free of corrosion and making good contact.
4. Take your head unit to your Lowrance dealer and they may have a transducer there to use to diagnose whether it is indeed the trasnducer or a problem with the head unit.

Good luck!

Built in transducer is not picking up/transferring depth to graph

I havew a Minn Kota trolling motor on a Z21 Ranger. Minn Kota has a built in (puck type) transducer on the motor. I have a lowrance 135x on the front. The lowrance will read the temp but will blink the depth. I switched out the depth finder with another 135x with the same results. I have a 522c gps unit networked together and mounted on the console that works fine. Any suggestions on the problem with the 135x?

383c transducer gives nothing but noisy red feedback at medium or high speeds

If it works at low speeds fine but has problems at higher speeds, basically you need to lower the transducer down further as it is lifted by the boat at higher speeds, or is getting caught in the turbulence of surface water created at higher speed. Lower the transducer a half inch at a time and re-test.

Transducer not connected

Sounds like an internal problem in the 947c. A factory reset may cure the issue if it's related to the operating system. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to do the reset on that model. I'll try to look it up and get back to you.
