Although it could be the hard drive, it could be any number of things as well. First, when the computer starts up, press the F8 key to bring up some options. Select disable automatic restart. This should allow the computer to stop at a blue screen so we can get some information from it. Do this and report back what that information says and we'll go from there. Thanks.

Okay...the unmountable boot volume error comes up when your hard drive goes bad. Sounds like you need a new hard drive.

Umm... can't boot to windows at all so the program that was provided wont work, can't reinstall windows automatic disk eject on startup!

Hi,

Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows XP and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly.

Restart your computer and press F8 again. This time, choose Safe Mode and press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start in Safe Mode, which does not automatically start programs and hardware, and displays very primitive graphics. If Windows XP starts successfully in Safe Mode, you can remove any programs or updates you have recently installed. Then, restart your computer normally.

Good luck!
And Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for using FixYa.

The Windows XP setup is detecting that you have a current installation of Windows XP. What you need is to do a clean install. You can find information on how to clean install Windows XP here:

http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Make sure that you back up all your data before doing a clean install as this will delete all data on your machine.

I hope this helps. Thanks and good day.

Brand new notebook .. windows then, screen freeze..acer picture

This may require a "repair" of windows.

Get a Windows XP Operating system disk with the correct service pack that the notebook has installed (usually XP SP2).

1. Boot from it (put it in CD drive and restart the laptop).

2. If you still get the same problem start up, you need to set the laptop to boot from CD.

3. Restart laptop, press Delete key or F2, or F12 (it should say one of these on the screen) to enter the Setup. or another key to get "boot options"

4. In Setup (BIOS) Use Right Arrow to find the Boot Options. Use the instructions to move the CD-ROM to first position, above HDD (hard drive). Press Esc, then F10 to save your changes and exit.

5. The XP CD Rom should now run. It should come to a screen where you are asked to press R to repair windows.

6. When it comes to the command prompt, restart the laptop

Hopefully the laptop should boot OK again.

My laptop after starting goes to the window xp intro screen then restarts again and again. it wont even recognize the boot disc that came with it

All right, first you gotta check your BIOS settings goto to bbot tab and check the order of your drives at the top must be the CD-rom drive, then check that "boot to optical devices" and "boot to removable devices" are enabled then restart your computer with  a bootable cd and goto repair mode, and perform check disk to the drive in your windows is installed. The command is "chkdisk C: /F /R" hope that helps, please rate the answer

HP Pavilion ze5500 - Laptop won't recognize hard drive.

Hi. Once I had this similar problem with a HP Pavilion dv9000. "No Operating System"; "Windows Recovery Console cannot continue because there's no HD present..press F3 to Exit". No progress with Safe Mode nor Command Prompt, etc.
Then I went to the Bios, change tab to "System Configuration" and change the "Sata Native Support" to disable, whitch says that by changing to disable the HD would work better if the Operating System are Win2000 and Win9x.
Hit "Safe and Exit" and the computer started normaly!
I relly don't know how or why. It just work.
I don't know if would work for Linux (mine had Windows XP) and don't know the Bios view of your laptop. But you can explore and give it a try.
Hope this helps.
God Bless You!
