Re: no discs recognised
Either 3 things could have happend.. the laser is off track which needs to be re-aligned, the blu ray drive is no longer good, or it just needs to be cleaned! Let me know what happens.. If you need a new drive they are 130$ish..
if the seal is in tact 167$ plus shipping to sony.. If you need one after you clean it(with a laser disc cleaner bought at the store) let me know I can give you instructions and the drive takes 10-15 min and your ready to go!

i have had similar problems as well as multiple friends of mine. to solve this, you must call the playstation company and send your system in to be serviced. if you have purchased it within the last year and have proof, sony will fix it for free. if not, they will charge you $150 for their services. this is the only way to fix the problem
It sounds like either the BluRay drive is failing or the diode is simply dirty. Try running a CD/DVD lens cleaner and see if that fixes the problem. Make sure you are always cleaning the vents on the PS3, especially the one on the side. You could also try using a can of air to clean it.
If this doesn't work, I recommend you call and complain to Sony.
it could be the laser that reads the discs might be faulty. i have same problem i insert the disc it reads the disc but it dusnt stop reading it or recognise what it is. i think u will have to get it serviced.. thats what im going to do
