GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator with Internal Dispenser 22.2 Cu. Ft. - PFS22MIS Logo
Posted on Nov 04, 2010

Hi, I am looking for a bit more information on troubleshooting GE Profile cooling issue (it is a PFS22MBSBWW model - french door, bottom freezer white on white), less than 5 years old. So the issue is that the fridge keeps clicking evey minute or so, fan is not working at all - that would probably indicate faulty control board and overload relay failure - both relativelly easy to replace, but how can I make sure that the compressor is still good? I had tech testing for shorts and non have shown but when fridge is plugged in it runs very hot and compressor never starts? Is it possible that this is still overload control issue and that compressor is OK?

Did the "tech" try and jump start the compressor? Testing for shorts won't tell you much, especially if there are no shorts. You say its clicking and the fan is not working at all, which fan are you referring? The one near the compressor? Furthermore, since you didnt describe what refrigerator and freezer temperature problems you were experiencing, I can only assume nothing was cold anywhere. However, since the compressor was very hot, and not starting, eliminates the control board being at fault, as it is energizing the compressor circuit. Additionally, since your "tech", and I do use the term loosely, but since he either didn't know how to jump start the compressor, or doesn't have the equipment to do so, you will either have to get a better refrigerator repairman to test the compressor, or bite the bullet, buy both the compressor relay and overload, and hope those were the problem and not the compressor itself.

I have a GE Profile counter depth French door refrigerator bottom freezer and I keep getting frost in the freezer. The seal on the door isn't as tight as the seal on the refrigerator but no cold air...

Where are you getting frost at? Is it on the back wall in the freezer? if so - your problem may be a defrost issue and in that case you would need to hire a professional appliance repair technician to service your refrigerator.

Refrigerator is getting no power

Check the relay and the compressor with a volt meter. Make sure that you are getting proper voltage. 110 - 120 volts at both the relay and the compressor. If nothing happens or everytime you try to test and the circuit keeps popping first check for bad wiring make sure nothing has come loose. If all the wiring checks out including the ground then the only thing that will pop a circuitbreaker is a bad compressor meaning it is drawing to many amp and you will either need to have a company replace the compressor for around 600 dollars or get a new unit
