Question about RCA D52W20 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

New Blue CRT installed now TV won't stay on

Hi,
I had Circuit City come out after I had a blue haze appear and they replaced the Blue CRT and the picture was beautiful. An hour after the tech left, I started to hear a faint "static crackle" coming from where the new CRT was and then the Tv turned off. I turned it back on and the power light just flashed and there was no sound or picture. A few hours later I turned it back on and it was fine for 5 minutes then it did the same thing. I called the tech back and he said it happened because of the new part and should clear up in a couple days. I think he is wrong. the TV won't stay on for more than 5 mins! please advise.

Sounds like the HV lead isnt sealed properly either at the CRT or the Splitter I would have him come back and recheck his connections

This can be ( Haze (blue) i a failure of the color engine or convergence chips on the Sustain board/s This is not a DIY on this set. Manufacturer recommends replacement of all 3 boards when one fails. Otherwise the new board will cause a domino effect.

# nerw boards ($300) + labor. It is not a case of playing board swap jockey for a fix. It requires voltage balance between boards and the ability to measure voltage from circuit diagram points and to be able to correctly retune the convergence via a generated hatch pattern on the screen

Blue haze on the lower part of rear Projection TV

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Blue menu screen stays on

Hi! the blue menu screen can be turned off by pressing the same button that caused it to appear. In most cases pressing the "Menu" button on the remote or TV-control will make the blue menu screen disappear..

I hope this helps!

Blue CRT issues?

Yes the puddle is related to the Blue CRT coolant leaking. You are most likely going to need a new Blue CRT drive circuit board and quite possibly a new Blue CRT if the CRT got too hot from not haveing a sufficent supply of coolant. You can get replacement CRT drives and CRts at the following link.

RCA D61130 picture has a blue haze comes and goes?

The cooling fluid needs changed in the tubes and the algae wiped off the crt faces. This is not a do-it-yourself unless you're pretty darn good at fixing things.
