Many IE tool-bars are deliberately designed to resist removal,
behaving like viruses, because the companies who write them
get revenue from site visit counters. Also many of these tool-bars
infect your computer whether you ask for them or not.
(sweetim is categorized as malware by several watchdog sites)

1) The first step in removing it, is to download a good ad-ware
remover, such as:

Ad-Aware from Lavasoft:

Spybot Search & Destroy from Safer Networking:

2) Both of these programs are very good at what they do,
and they are absolutely FREE.

3) Please be extremely careful to go to the legitimate web
sites and download the "Real McCoy" because there are
hundreds of fraudulent sites out there pushing rogue
anti-malware programs with similar names.

The rogue sites promise you a free scan, come back
with a bunch of false positives, and then extort you
for money.

4) Scan your computer with both products and they should
remove the critter.

5) If that fails, you may want to try anti-virus programs,
such as AVG, McAfee and Kaspersky.

( I do NOT like Norton's)

All of these product cost money, but they do have free
trial downloads, and they are a good investment. You
only need one of these, I prefer AVG by Grisoft from
the Czech Republic. (Version 8 with firewall is very good)

7) Another very useful tool is the startup monitor & startup
control panel from Mike Lin's website:

The monitor runs in the background and gives you
a warning message when a program tries to install
itself in the registry startup keys.

you can then choose to allow or block the action.
This will stop many bad programs in their tracks.

The control panel applet allows you to review and
manage all programs which startup automatically,
except for hooks and services.

6) If that fails, you will have to search running processes,
and search the registry to remove it manually
this gets complicated, and it is sometimes less work
to re-install windows, depending on your situation.

I don't want to get into that until you have tried
the other things.

7) Finally, I am concerned why you are still running version
3.1 of Internet Explorer, which is very old and has
virtually no security. You should be running at least
version 6 if not 7. (6 is better, 7 is bloated)

8) The best solution is to abandon Internet Explorer altogether
and switch to FireFox from

What version of Windows are you running ?
Let me know if you need more help

Bingo, anti-virus did it's job, so the tool bar uninstall
would fail.

F-Secure is a very good product, sorry I forgot to mention it.
They also make a very good Rootkit detector, called Black light,
that is very worth while.

Also look for tools by Mark Russinovich, formerly from

He is now at Microsoft, and his website has been renamed to Winternals, although some of his more powerful and controversial
tools have been removed at Microsoft's request.

You can still find them on other sites under the sysintenrals
name. He also has very good anti-rootkit tools, registry
and process monitors, etc. Some of these were so good
the Microsoft made him a Sopranos offer he could not refuse.

SOURCE: i can't remove sweetim toolbar

Yes. It's spyware, so if you had decent anti-malware protection, you wouldn't've been able to install it in the first place, but that's another story.

Please download a programme called Revo Uninstaller from:--

Then use the "Advanced" uninstall mode. Follow the instructions and this wretched toolbar and all its hidden components will disappear.

Can not download yahoo toolbar "Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer's Add-on Management feature lets you view, enable and disable the list of add-ons which can be loaded by Internet Explorer. Add-ons include browser helper objects, ActiveX controls, toolbar extensions and browser extensions.
To view or modify the add-ons on your computer by launching Manage Add-ons:
1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or Disable Add-ons. 2. To disable an add-on, select it in the list in the Manage Add-ons dialog box and select the Disable radio button. 3. To enable an add-on, select it in the list in the Manage Add-ons dialog box and select the Enable radio button. 4. Click OK to confirm. Note: Disabling an add-on does not remove it from your computer. It simply prevents Internet Explorer from executing the add-on's code-it does not prevent other software from executing the add-on. If an add-on is disabled, website pages that rely on that add-on may not work as expected. For more information on Add-ons, click the "Learn more about add-ons" help link in the Manage Add-ons dialog box.

When i try to open it. it will flash in and out and something will come up explorer unhandled file..cancel

This sounds like a problem with an add on for Internet Explorer. If you have installed any toolbars, such as Google Toolbar, Toolbar, or even the Bing toolbar, they should be removed.

To confirm that this is the problem, you should try this: Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click Internet Explorer no add-ons.

If you can browse without getting this message you it is one of the addons that you have installed. Usually addons for Internet Explorer are listed in the Add/Remove Programs list found in the control panel.

Another possibility is a virus or some other form of malware.
You can try running Spybot S&D (download)
and/or try running and installing a free anti virus program, if you do not have a program already.
One I recommend and use personally is Comodo Internet Suite

Method 1: Clear cached data in Internet Explorer
To determine whether a performance issue or an error message is caused by corruption in the temporary Internet files or in other cached information that is used by Internet Explorer, you must clear cached data. To do this, follow these steps:

Internet Explorer 7

1. Open Internet Explorer 7.
2. Click Tools, and then click Delete Browsing History.
3. In Delete Browsing History, click Delete All.
4. Click to select the Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons check box, and then click OK.
Run Internet Explorer in "No Add-Ons" mode
Internet Explorer add-ons, such as ActiveX controls and browser toolbars, are used by some Web sites to provide an enhanced browsing experience. An error may occur if an add-on is damaged or if an add-on conflicts with Internet Explorer. To determine whether the error is caused by an add-on, run Internet Explorer in "No Add-Ons" mode. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box.
2. Click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons). Internet Explorer opens without add-ons, toolbars, or plug-ins.
3. Test Internet Explorer to verify that it works correctly

before u open the add/remove programs, close all the programs you`re using in, example of this is, Internet Explorer. Some programs need to restart after you've removed it. the better way is, when u open your computer, remove it first before doing anything else. :)
